When comparing the eBook reader, there are a number of factors, one needs to be considered. The selection of devices is growing daily and the options on the devices is growing. For some people, the number of books the reader collects the most important, while for others the ease of transport. Therefore, it is imperative that individuals take into consideration as many factors as possible when comparing one model to another.

In this article, 4 different models to compare and discuss the properties of the individual, so that each reader can decide what might be best suited to their individual needs. Comparisons are screen size, weight, wireless capabilities, memory, battery life, and facilitate navigation. The four models are as follows:

Amazon Kindle 2 eBook Reader This reader is often referred to as the next generation of readers mentioned features and improved ergonomics and navigation. It has a better display than the original version, and more storage capacity. The battery life is getting better, while a subscription-free wireless access to Sprint's 3G data network.

With Amazon Kindle Store, the primary service, users can have the largest selection of eBooks and, you naturally invite them to have free and used with the high speed of Kindle may be the most books available for download anytime, anywhere. The service will be activated automatically and requires no monthly service plans, invoices or obligations to their customers. Over 200,000 books for download, this on the New York Times bestseller, including disposal. Magazines and newspapers can also be sent wirelessly automatically.

The Kindle 2 weighs only 10.2 grams and has a 6-inch screen, which means, therefore it can be simply and easily. About 1500 books can be downloaded from the Kindle 2nd Battery lasts about 2 weeks.

Amazon Kindle DX This is a large-screen device that is actually 1.5 times larger than the regular display Kindle. This technology also provides native support for PDF and it is probably safe to say that the DX is better suited for reading electronic versions of newspapers, magazines, books and formatted.

This eBook Reader also has an iPhone-like accelerometer changes the orientation of the screen when you turn the reader. It offers a 9.7-inch screen and weighs 18.9 ounces making it almost double the weight of the Kindle 2. The download features of the DX-far exceed the Kindle 2 will allow up to 3500 pounds. Battery is approximately 2 weeks.

Sony PRS-700 The device is roughly comparable to the iPhone in its touch-screen functionality and turn pages back and forth swiping motion. It has improved navigation and a faster processor. A pen is intended to highlight or make notes, and keywords. Like the Kindle 2, a 6-inch screen and offers a 10-ounce weight. The memory of the Sony PRS-700 is 512 MB and the battery is approximately 7500 pages.

The Sony PRS-505 Reader allows the downloading of pounds from the Sony bookstore and from other eBook online stores. The Sony bookstore also offers loans for 100 free ebook downloads from their Classic Collection. Similar to other eBook readers, offers the Sony PRS-505 about 7500 pages of battery life and like the Sony PRS-700, a 6-inch screen. It weighs only 9 grams and has 192 MB of memory.

Fujitsu Flepia

This is the Cadillac among eReaders. It is the first color eBook reader in the world, but you pay for it with a whopping $ 1000 price tag. It also offers an 8-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can store books on a 4 GB SD card, and you are done 40 hours continuous operation from each charging. If money was no object, would do what everyone else is doing another eReader, and then some. According to Digital book readers, the new devices are currently serves as point of sale (POS) terminal in the testing Termina Kinshicho Fujiya Restaurant in Tokyo as an interactive menu. In addition to allowing its guests to choose menu options by tapping on the touch screen sexy, the device also gives patrons access to lists of train, local weather and other shopping sites.

BEBOOK: Endless Ideas

Endless Ideas is a Dutch company, and not their BEBOOK see it too with some average functionality. It is, however, at 7.8 ounces light, so very easy to wear. It also offers you a selection of fonts that can be changed, you are reading. The triple-zoom function is also a useful feature for an eBook reader in its price range ($ 300 - $ 350). It is with a large range of file formats are compatible, and would be text for the open-source, which can come in many disguises to be useful.

General

Prices for most devices range from $ 200 to $ 500 The best reader is really a decision on your personal needs and preferences. If you are considering the purchase of a reader, you should spend some time reading customer reviews and testimonials to see what other users have found, when the positive or negative about the individual functions of the different models.

In a recent review posted on ConsumerSearch.com, experts Amazon's Kindle 2 with an overwhelming majority of the best eBook reader on the market, comments on the Kindle 2 is observed, the only disadvantage is limited file format support and even this restriction is considered by some as a negligible . The best budget was the Sony eReader PRS-505.

While Apple's iPhone is not a special eReader, it is extremely convenient and can be paired with the Kindle for iPhone application that is available free of charge. So the user can get access to the Amazon selection of titles, but without the range of functions on a dedicated reader.

As the technology further and further ahead, the eBook Reader is here to stay. And with the rapid technological progress, the possibilities they offer only get better and better. What this means is that as computers are approaching, your readers are liable to obsolescence shortly after purchase, although still usable. This will, however, prices fall and become more affordable, schools and students. Information about the author: Article Consumer Electronics: http://www.article-buzz.com

Summary: Good Job Sony.

Let me say first that I have no connection with either Sony or Amazon.

My wife has installed a global Kindle 2 with the latest software. The Kindle is a very nice product. I have the PRS-600 in black. I must say that the Kindle screen has a little more contrast. But overall, if I use a vote against the other, would get a total of 4.9 and the Sony, the Kindle 4.25.

The software in the Sony is almost perfect. I still have to freeze and stop responding to touch and works flawlessly. The software is very intuitive and very easy to understand.

It is amazing how small and compact, this unit is to compare the Kindle. With the Sony OEM case it will almost fit in your pocket. The MP3 player works great and the dictionary is very good.

But we come to what was this piece of ..... Read books designed. The Sony bookstore is more than sufficient, and almost exactly like the Amazon store prices. The ability to obtain library pounds, is wonderful. I've heard complaints about the Reader software, but it's really not that difficult if the instructions are on the reader in the form of a zip file that can easily on any desktop or reader even be asked to read.

The memory is expandable, like an SD or Memory Stick card can add. This is possibly the best feature and offers virtually unlimited storage capacity. Some PDF files are large and the Kindle just cannot handle many large files, MPS, etc.

I glare on the screen and even to have heard it is a problem. The contrast on the Kindle is better, but the reader is very friendly and the eye should not be a problem.

The lack of wireless isn't really a concern. Books are downloaded and moved to the reader via USB. The procedure is simple and fast and leaves a copy on your computer, which is nice.

Finally, I must say I'm surprised look on the reader. The lack of wireless is not even a thought, when I have a cell phone, laptop computer, Internet access. The legibility is excellent and the software properly. The build quality is excellent and after market batteries are now available and can be replaced by removing 2 screws. The Kindle is also nice, but I think Sony got it right with this one.

Summary: So much better

I had the 505, and had really not much interest in the cell or WiFi access to the store, so I on the Touch upgrade for the speed ... and yes, it is much more snappy than the 505, or my friend Kindle. Page turn, is fast, but if you go back 10 pages to check something, there is no comparison. drag-&-hold, or simply holding the previous page button and the screen "flip-flip-flip-flip" faster than you can read three words on each page.

On the 505, after updating the library and disconnect from the computer, there was a wait, "go get a cup of coffee long," while the reader up the internal database. At the touch when I disconnect and turn it on, I see the hourglass, then turn to the library about to close on the computer to look back and ready.

The dictionary and search functions work as advertised, and the music features are kinda nifty, if you're reading something that reminds you depart later on something. (Look up a recipe for Chicken Kiev!).

And I have not noticed a difference at all in the screen. (some people have said that it has problems glare)

Maybe it's just the light I read, but I have not seen more shine or lack of sharpness it with my old readers.

And .. It is more beautiful than the old one. The black bezel is smooth.

Summary: OK but doesn't stand up to competition

Conclusion: It is a device, but OK dollar for dollar, it is not as good as the Kindle.

If you need to be able to write directly to your readers with a pen even at the cost of an extra ~ $ 100, 3G connectivity, screen glare and poor contrast ratio. Then this is the e-reader for you.

PS The Kindle prints random pictures on his screen before going off as just empty, not really a function, but it's a nice gesture at the expense of almost no extra batteries to meet.

Summary: Touch vs Glare
I have used the Touch Edition PRS-600 for a little over a month and have read 3 complete books so far. Beyond stating that the glare is easily avoided and the touch screen is fast, easy and efficient, I am only going to review one feature because it would take me forever to present all of the great features of this device. On one book, I highlighted over 120 entries. Here is where the Touch really shines. It is very easy to highlight with the stylus after your first 3-4 attempts and you get the hang of it. I can't imagine doing it any other way. The notes made for each book are stored separately or together (you choose) and can be searched or re-sorted according to attribute (by page#, by comment, by type) Furthermore the highlights can be annotated individually (up to 2000 characters) with an on-screen "soft" keyboard (why take up extra room and sacrifice reading space like on the Kindle). Notes can be hidden or displayed within the pages. When you have completed a book, you can export the notes to your computer, and print, edit or email. Mine export to .rtf file format and I read/edit them in word. You can also synchronize notes between the computer and reader but I have not used this feature. There are many erroneous statements made here about the PRS-600 simply due to ignorance in fully reading user instructions. You can read the content of the reader while plugged into the computer, by the way (on your monitor). I will update this review with other features if people find this useful.

Summary: Sony Reader - love it!

I have the Reader for Christmas, and I love, love it! It is perfect for me. I read a lot and often have trouble finding room to store all my books. Finally, I am forced to the difficult choice of which books go into the donation box, and what I always do. Buying books from the Sony eBookStore is simple and easy and best of all - I can start reading immediately. Not all the books I will be happy to read in digital form, but there is a wide selection of available books. Certainly not the choice or variety. I have 14 books on my reader and love so much that they take less than an inch space on the shelf.

The reader is not lit, so I can read all day and not to strain the eyes. I even forget sometimes it is not a book and turn up to the hand. The pages are easy to make with the stylus or your thumb on the screen or the navigation buttons on the bottom of the reader.

I loaded some pictures to it from my computer, and they look great. You are not in color, but they are very sharp.

So far I have music on, load it, but it comes with two songs. The sound quality is very nice.

I have the Reader with integrated light cover - the light on a flexible arm that neatly stowed. Great for reading at bedtime. The reader is not very hard, and together with the cover I can not hold much like a normal book.

One of the other reviews mentioned, color, and I am, yes, I agree. My reader is also red, and it makes a big difference. One of the things that I do not have a Kindle had seen how I was, blah, they were white. The red is vibrant and beautiful.

I checked the library function you can borrow books for readers from a library, but there were no libraries for my condition listed. I'm not sure if I can borrow books from another country, but I hope there are books that I'd be interested in reading, but do not want to buy. Right now, that is my only snag.

Summary: Not your average Sony...

Sony PRS-600BC Clear Touch Anti-Glare Screen Protector

Ok, where do you start? I think the title of this review. I do not think that this is your average product of Sony, because I really expected much more from a company with their reputation. So take no further adieu, here's my on the Sony PRS600 eBook reader.

My first impression was that the eBook reader really comes across in its elegance. So in this context, the pictures can not do it, it is enough justice. This is really not as something that will come with the business and personal environment to be seen. I went with the more standard black version, unlike the other options, but the red may not be a bad choice for someone who wants to either push the envelope, or just make a statement.

One of the features I really like about this device is the multi-memory card slots. The reader allows you to store your data on SD as well as more proprietary Sony Memory Stick format. This is a very good trait for someone like me that Sony cameras in the past (which I had no more use) that can use me to the old memory cards that I just randomly lying around. Also, because these are two separate slots on the top of the device, it will allows you to both slots with the card of your choice, complete the strategy would allow the added value of work, maintaining and playing geographically separated, the other is nice feature that you will not find many of the other eBook readers.

The menus, I found, are pretty decent, but I found it a bit lacking. For example, there is no way to adjust the contrast on the device. My concern with the ability to come to the contrast of one of my major concerns over the amount of glare that the image produced. Granted, for some it is not much, but for me it's been a little too much. Apart from that, I have the Sony PRS-600BC Clear Touch Anti-Glare Screen Protector ", which I have just been purchased recently. Too bad that I did not do so if I bought the readers know how I would in any case, will recommend to everyone that it is, or has bought this unit. Between this and the Sony Reader Digital Edition Cover with Light Touch - Black (PRSACL6) "this device is almost completely perfect.

Since it will be around the "Touch Edition" would be no review, no supplement to this functionality. The touch function really comes into play if you want to either flip the pages, or if you use the zoom function on the side to move (since when is moving in the zoom mode, the zoom slider is on the screen and the displayed page must be around all the information that could be covered from the perspective view).

Previously, I was pretty unsure about this device. I would have loved the bigger screen, say, the Kindle DX. But after about Amazon saw a little bit, I also recognize that there is less opportunity to really personalize the Kindle, and far fewer accessories available to make the Kindle better or resolve associated short defects. Even if we have the issue, though it supports more formats Kindle does not support it, the EPUB format, meaning that if all of your eBooks from Amazon are planning to purchase, you probably do too much in terms of other eBooks about everyone else. In all fairness though, while the Sony has the MS Word format in terms of support. RTF file extension is not supported. DOC extension, which the Kindle does not ([...]).

As for the software, an employee of mine told me that prior to receiving the device, which Sony has been entirely absent in their development of the eBook reader software. His only suggestion was for me for free Caliber eBook reader software download (which) I found with a simple Internet search. So get the Caliber free eBook reader software, and none of the associated problems was that I've seen mentioned in some of the other reviews.

Final Verdict:

For what it's worth, this is a really pretty nice eBook reader. Fit and finish are first class, it works as advertised, is very appealing, the eyes, and is fairly easy to navigate. My only recommendation would be to the accessories as mentioned above, which will also help your eBook reader experience that would make a lot more fun.

Realistically, no eBook reader to 100% of what "they" really being an eBook reader. The trick seems to find one, that most of the requirements that you have to respond adequately to be most important to you.

Summary: Prs 600RC Easy to Navigate

I had my 600RC PRS for two weeks.

The worst thing is about my 600RC PRS, the dark screen and the eLibrary software. The first time I had problems with the software with my PRS 300RC, which I gave my twin brother as an early Christmas present.

The software locked up and no matter what I did, it would not load again. I then searched some blogs and followed the instructions and got the software works. It will only work as part of another logged-on user, but it works.

The PRS-600RC, the screen is noticeably darker than the PRS-300 is. However, as others have posted here, you get to the image darker and used the low glare. It is easier to read in direct sunlight or high light areas.

I have no experience with the MP3 player function, I still have the comment function. The PRS-600 is a profitable business to buy, but I would be just as happy with the PRS-300, as it was lighter and much, much easier on the screen.

I like the preview option on the PRS-600, the PRS has not 300th With Caliber Library makes it easy for you to sell your books, either title or author to organize.

I have read that if the reader is charged via the USB to the computer, it is always no charge as long as one of the power supply. I find this to be true as I have just the free reader from three days and am already down a bar. I read an average of 2 + hours a day, every day.

I'll update in a few weeks after I research what sites to buy books for my readers to be compatible. I bought books from barns and noble, and they are not compatible and are DRM-protected.

Overall, I'm enjoying my PRS 600RC

17. December 09 (update) I can take with battery issues. I have in the comment section, in case someone might have some tips on fixing this problem.

I've found that I had the first reader that had a dark screen was broken. It was a return if I bought it. I was the reader back and a brand new, coming in no additional costs!

I have not downloaded the new software for the Sony elibary, but I have read reviews on the improvements.

Still thrilled with my purchase.

Summary: Happy with Purchase after Agonizing Decision!

I have watched eBooks and the existing hardware for them for years. When came the Kindle, I spent some time with one and liked it but was about the kind of proprietary format and the inability to "share" my books affected.

Nook was then, and I was tempted, but struggled with the same issues - and the lack of availability, when I was ready to buy, too.

I had a look at the Sony versions, but has not even attempted until the Touch came out.

I am * so * glad I waited.

What I love:

PDFs read - I read in grad school and 20-30 journal articles in the week. That is a lot of time to spend a chair in front of a screen - and far too much to print. I can convert my own documents and put them on the reader ready reference.

Free library books - there are ePub and PDF books available through my public library free to play on my readers, without conversion or dispute. Beautiful Adobe interface makes it seamless.

Free Public Domain Books - These books already formatted for this reader. The pages flow nicely. The only downside is that I can never read them all!

Large selection of books to buy - I like that I can buy them from various sources - including Sony, Fictionwise, and the like.

Audio - The reader provides support and play MP3 audio books, music, and the like. I can * free * audio-read books from my library for my drive Download Time 'or listen to music while I read.

Expandable - There are two card slots for expanding the memory of the reader I should ever need more space.

Color - It's red! Yes, you can get it in silver, but I love that it comes in red! It may inspire silly, as on the aesthetics, but they play no role.

Design - In addition to the beautiful color, this reader is designed just beautiful. It feels good in your hand and fits perfectly into the (purchased separately to cover) to set on fire.

Touch Screen - When the sides with a button in order, but I just love to steal my thumb to jump to the next page. The ability to tap twice on a word and select a dictionary is wonderful. Highlighting, handwritten notes and on-screen menus are all the bonus features of this technology. In addition, it means there is more room for display and only a small piece of real estate devoted to keys. Love it.

Clarity - The screen is somewhat reflective, and the touch-screen level will lead the reader to lose that a little bit of clarity, as compared to other Sony Reader. However, unless I hold them side by side, it is not something I noticed. It is very easy to read this eBook, and the aforementioned cover with light allows me to read it anywhere.

Adjustable Fonts - The ability to print size from small to gigantic change is fabulous. There are 5 font sizes, and I've used them all for a book or another.

Adjustable Screen Orientation - I love to be able to turn the book aside. It's really my preferred orientation for the reading.

Why only 4 star:

Which was set up by this unit bulky. There is not much loaded with a manual (4 pages? Coming) and all the software on the device and on your computer when you plug it in. exception, you may need additional software to create PDF files, you play with your library's nice. And you have to run and maintain the software and firmware upgrades as soon as you put it. (I love that Sony fixed the problems so that only a small complaint here.) If I was not very sophisticated technology, I have a glitchy, crash program and no idea how to fix it stuck. There must be a "here's how you get your computer up and running that we have now found out that we are not willing to work ship" card in the box!

The people have me on the need to connect to my computer asked the books and other reading material for this eBook purchase. I actually prefer it so. It is a rare day that I was not on my laptop. I stand by my library and save it through my computer, and I pretty regularly synchronize your device. By searching for songs online I can find the best deal and bound instead of a variety of sources for content. (Library "Google" Free! If not, then I quickly check my favorite 3 places for the title I want at the best price.) With several hundred pounds to the eBook, I have never read from material.

While I'm not super-thrilled with the software that came with the system, once I discovered an open source program called the Caliber that I organized eLibrary converted files will be read on my device and retrieves messages from more than 300 seats, I officially hook for good. But this is a very different evaluation.

Summary: Better than Kindle, just Sony has bad marketing dept.

I've had the Sony Reader 505 for 5 months and loved it updated, just to the touch version. You are not forced to buy from Amazon, Sony eBook Store Amazon has almost everything works, and you can ask if something is missing. Free books on Google, specially formatted for Sony Reader, No ugly keyboard at the bottom, but a virtual keyboard and can use a stylus or finger. Expandable memory slots, 2 of 'em! Can borrow books from the library.

It looks much cooler than the Kindle and the reference functions, and edit a page is great.

Summary: Great e-reader for multiple formats

I have received from the manufacturer's website for 3 weeks with - and love it. It displays pounds in multiple formats and languages. Previously, it was not secured decoding formats, but support for this is to upgrade will be available soon to solve this problem (and I expect it to actually happen, because a recent amendment with removable batteries - Ectaco JetBook JetBook Lite Lite Electronic eBook Reader already supports the e-books purchased from B & N).

In the meantime, I have read it everywhere with me and having books - for hours every day - and it makes my eyes tired.

Pros: Right size, low weight, good construction, design and convenient placement of keys, padded envelope contained, user friendly, multiple formats, languages - including Russian, expandable memory (SD card up to 2GB), adjustable font size, landscape mode available when necessary, easy on the eyes, the bookmarks automatically into the files and allows your own bookmarks, area ...

Cons: Nothing major. Only a few suggestions. For example, bookmarks for each file are specific and there is no general bookmark list, the convenient shorthand way to regain power, and in multiple files / would pound. I can not think of anything else.

I've already bought two more as gifts for my mother and a friend.

Summary: Forget'bout'it

I bought the thing for my girlfriend about a year ago, and if it works technically what I would not recommend for everyone, for a number of reasons:

- The only type of file it can read TXT, which everything is read, there are also converted. She claims to read Acrobat files, but it provides the entire text as an image, so you do not easily scroll up and down, making them unusable.

- A lot of memory issues, which would both with the onboard memory and SD card, I copy a file and it will not be connected to the device, another file that I delete, and for 2 months, it was to say that there

- Absent SUPPORT - the company that this thing is Russian or something does, and you can forget to return them to answer your e-mail or the phone

- MP3 player is useless to work very slowly and disturbances in the audio (beeps and gaps)

- Do not even think about images they see on this terrible monochrome display

Summary: A good first try

For the most part of Ectaco JetBook works OK on paper, but once you use it it in a day to day basis as I do, then begins to show its weaknesses. Here are the main weaknesses, in no particular order:

1. No serif font for text files. To truly emulate the experience of reading a printed book, I feel every eBook Reader should offer a serif font like Georgia or Palatino. I have a modest printed book library and most are from the classics printed in a serif font. I read books used in serif font - it just feels "warmer" as Arial or Verdana to me (you can only choose between Arial or Verdana in JetBook). A sans serif font such as Arial or Verdana is OK for technical documents, but not classic literature IMHO.

3. The word lookup is experience even worse, every time when we choose a word that you have, once again with the English dictionary. Maybe I did something wrong, but my dictionary selection setting is not saved across sessions. This contributes to many buttons to see a word if you read in the JetBook. You might as well wear an electronic dictionary to your word lookups do.

5. The JetBook has a nice screen with good contrast and clarity, which I found more easily than other ebook readers on the basis of e-ink technology (eg Astak EZReader) when I read the two side by side. However, there is a noticeable .5 - to 1-second delay when I leaf, especially in large books, and when panning in PDF documents. Many people have praised the JetBook's LCD display latency, that he was an E Ink screen, compared, and it would be right, but the page turns and PDF panning are still a bit too slow for me. Am I expecting too much when I turned in the vicinity of the current page? I want to be able to hold the next / previous page buttons, and who turn the pages as fast as I could flip through a physical book.

If the five questions above are not a bother for you, then you can have fun with the JetBook. My JetBook is now back at Frys, or in the hands of someone who I hope there is more excited than me. Just because I back it does not mean it should be like the plague - it was not simply do not meet my needs, all this can be avoided. All in all, the JetBook a good first attempt from ECTACO, an authority on the translator, and it is slowly improving, as they firmwares for updated version. The JetBook is definitely a decent eBook reader for the price, but remember that you can also get a Kindle1 for about the same price on eBay. If you want to save money and time do not mind lugging around something stronger, which are expensive ebook reader on the market, the CER-1150's. You can be the update that one would use eBookwise-1150 ebooks by updating the firmware, which allows the reader with Fictionwise.

Happy e-reading!

Summary: Easy to use ereader

The device takes a 2G SD card and internal memory for themselves. It comes with many fine classic pound is already installed, including the choice of pre-installed with a King James Bible. It has downloaded a drag and drop technology for putting the pounds on the card or reader, or you can do it by copying.

Spoken word is not accepted, the device, mobility, and some other popular formats, but a beta firmware upgrade on the site are available. I have not done so, I'll wait for me on the final version. I have read many books in the meantime!

The Ectaco site is running a special right, as I now require that the reader has a decent carry bag, USB cable, adapter, CD, user manual, ear and shipping costs. (It plays MP3's, which I have not done, but it is available) It is not as expensive as the other major eReaders. It feels very sturdy and substantial in your hand, I expect them to hold even under normal conditions.

I am pleased and excited about this ereader for the modernization fhe firmware. The company responded promptly and courteously assisted all of my pre-purchase of e-mails and seem very much. I do not think you can go wrong with this one!

Summary: Good for plain text

I bought it in June 2008.

The good: It is very small, so that you would take if only the smallest printed book would go. Stylish. Text-only works very well.

The bad: It's not e-Ink technology, so that it uses up the battery in a few days of active reading. No Use for advanced text support (with the exception of PDF, the most useless on a small screen anyway).

Conclusion: a nice companion you can take out anywhere, as long as you comfortable with simple, text-only restriction.

Summary: Decent bare-bones reader but hope you don't ever need aftermarket support

Bookeen has been about much more than the Kindle, and for a long time it was one of the few readers that could be purchased in U.S. states such that it has developed quite a loyal following in international circles.

However, Bookeen has a high degree of loyalty of their customers through the introduction of faulty software and firmware updates that promise delivered when, are often more than a year later than previously announced lost. Sony and Kindle, however, both have major upgrades via firmware within the first year of ownership (I had all three - at this point the Kindle DX my readers the choice with the Sony's) is a close seconds.

I like things on the Cybook:

1. The ePub support means you have a very large number of bookstores and public libraries to purchase from which your reading material (though Amazon Kindle titles will not work.

2. SD slot - provides a mechanism for the organization by fiction books on an SD card and not fiction on another, or other "file" you can imagine.

3. Screen - because Cybook is the touch screen is given fashion (like Sony), the display clear and very easy to read.

4. Interface is easy to use and look of the device is stylistically "pure." I think that iphone with the whole thing, and buttons are downgraded, this reader has minimal buttons, but that does not affect usability.

Things I do not like about the Cybook:

1. Firmware buggy and tends Bookeen is not big on fixing this error ... E-mail if you need technical support, and if you want an answer, it will probably be informed that a workaround is available, and there is a firmware update "soon". However, if you read article, one of the mobile forums, you'll find that these firmware updates are vaporware.

2. Price of 5-inch Opus is not competitive - however, that the exchange rate and do not really blame can be attributed to Bookeen.

3. Screen size - that's just my personal preference but I prefer the other properties that a bigger screen (even 6 inches makes a significant difference) provides ... If you're like me at the age of middle, you are probably notice at the outset that it only read a little bit easier if you increase the font size. I know many disagree with me on this - they want something that is smaller and more "portable", so again have that is very much a personal preference thing ...

4. ePub - the older reader Cybook supports Mobi (forerunner of the Amazons AZW format), a far superior format in terms of size and legibility. I personally am not wild about the EPUB format, but to win, unfortunately not always the best format standards battle (such as Sony - they are painfully aware of!)

5. Post-sales support is abysmal. Again, just do a search on Cybook firmware upgrade and you will always see fundamentally new frustrations with customers dumping their eReaders out of sheer frustration because Bookeen so little regard for current customers, and appears only in the acquisition of new interests.

If you would like a smaller reader, I think there are better opportunities out there - like the Astak Inc Astak 5-inch Pocket Pro (Blue) EZ-reader or even the Sony Reader Digital Pocket Edition - Silver (PRS300SC), and they have a proven track record for supporting their products.

There are so many ways, the reader at this point, what's important, of what is important, others for me. But I think everyone should be able to agree that if you spend several hundred dollars on a device sold by the manufacturer that they support him - Bookeen fails miserably at this and for that reason alone I would encourage others, an opinion that many other readers that are available on the market today.

Summary: The French rock, yea!

I was never a fan of the book that readers keyboards like the christening or have too many buttons like the Sony 300th It is very slim and lightweight. One word of advice, do not use an SD card into the device until they upgrade the firmware version, it freezes when you use the SD card. Being left-handed I like the accelerometer, that I can turn it around and use the buttons on the other side. Best price too!

Summary: Good but sensitive.

It is small but sufficiently sized and makes a good portable. He came with a protective case to case.

I loaded it with a large number of files to test it and after the second meeting of uploading files to the device, some files were not readable. Then it is even worse and it would not display all files (not upload this time, I have damaged the unit guessign the fs even more, by) his own files for the flash.

After both uploads I have safely remove hardware on a Vista PC 64, so why am I only filesystem corruption?

Then it got even more fun. I backed up what I reformatted the machine and was able to. First-format lasted about an hour, reported many bad blocks, and failed. So I tried quickly that the Flash format and made available on device, but Windows is still reporting a problem with the fs.

Next, I have a USB cable that I know is good, instead of the one that comes with the work, and also draws power from 2 USB slots instead of one (not that I needed because I unit charged before use of IT). Was not sure if they have an influence on things, but then I formatted it again, this time with FAT32, and there were no bad blocks. Perhaps the cable that came with the work, was shaky, or maybe usb opus switches to power, and when attached to a USB port was not easy to give sufficient power.

Unfortunately, I do not know if the internal memory is fully functional, now that I collect a 2 gig card I had MSD dust made, and nothing so far to get back corrupt. Everything I in the internal flash memory for now, a set of fonts. (supports different fonts, they must be placed only in the Fonts folder).

If you do this: Back up the contents of the device before you do anything else. The device will not return to what it needs, they should get wiped, you will only lose the free books, it comes with.

Except that the device is nice, it does not support a few formats (that's the reason why I selected) is working well with a 2-gig MSD card. Invites (I created in Flash, if I feel happy and bored).

Only improvements I would make is to add a wrist strap of some kind, because I am afraid that I will drop him.

Overall, a good compact unit, hopefully my fs corruption only event was either a bad USB cable to the device or simply came just a happy coincidence.

Summary: A good alternative to the Kindle

It is a reader, what I do to save - and map pounds - and nothing else will. That's what I think about how. The Kindle is designed to make it as easy as possible to buy from Amazon, that his main reason for existence. Amazon also discourages you from your eBooks elsewhere by them to Amazon to be converted. It's none of that nonsense with the Opus - you just join, and add the books you want.

It's a nice little machine (the ads do not really give you an idea of how little it is - it is slightly larger than a frozen waffle). The display is very readable, and the interface, although is a little strange at first quite easy to handle. I give it four stars because it has a tendency to have uncomfortable moments are not frozen, as an alternative to the Kindle hegemony, I would be a BEBOOK, also very simple and inexpensive, or Sony Reader can (but only if you have a PC ).

Summary: Rejoice. The Reflective LCD is here.

ECTACO JetBook.

I want to say that the JetBook Lite is a very large device. As great as it may seem, it has a fatal error. It's just that the DRM-protected content is determined by Barnes & Noble. So if you have many DRM-protected content, then I suggest you look elsewhere.

Well, here is my praise of JetBook Lite.

It's cheap. very cheap. to beat at $ 150, the 5 'eBook Reader has great features, no other competitors.

First, it is reflective LCD screen.

Reflective LCD allows a fast turn over / change image immediately. No "Flash" page turns like almost all e-ink competitors. Yes, I'm talking to you, Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, iRiver, and most of you 'cheap alternative' eBook readers.

JetBook / LITE pages turning quickly and smoothly.

Second, the batteries.

JetBook LITE (JBL) comes with 4 AA batteries instead of the built-in rechargeable batteries you anywhere for 24 hours of continuous reading (10,000 pages). Now this feature is the deciding factor between JetBook and JetBook Lite.

Good thing about these AA batteries is that at the end of the battery cycle, would you turn on your eBook and pay a ridiculous amount of money to have replaced your battery for you. LITE, but it is easy to replace and replace it cheaply. Another good starting point is JetBook Lite, that because the placement of the battery on the left side of the book is, it fits so comfortably on your left hand. I have never felt comfortable and safe operation of an eBook reader. I never had to worry about dropping the device has an accident. it fits into your hand GREAT.

The bad point about AA batteries is that it adds bulkiness to the device. You're gonna have hard (er) time to find a protective cover on the baby.

The device has three types of turning pages. on the left side there is a sliding mechanism that the pages to be rotated with minimal effort. very practical. and two buttons below the left a great position to turn the page. You can also find pages with the left and right arrow on the bottom right corner.

Once again, I would like to mention that page NOW! Without "FLASH".

Two fonts are available immediately, Arial and Verdana.

6 font sizes, 12 to 32

You can use the number of tabs on the right side to search the book for easy access to all content.

Books can be organized by folders. (yay)

Built in the dictionary is a great feature.

Multiple language support is great, English, other languages is very cool dictionary.

128MB internal memory, but it has SD card expansion slot.

ECTACO JetBook Lite is a great device. I would recommend this before any other devices that are "in" right now.

Summary: AA batteries good -- no backlight bad.

Previous reviews cover the details of this eBook reader quite well, so I will only comment on two points:

Con: The LCD display is very good, both in size and readability, but the one characteristic I think the eBook reader really needs is a backlight.

Advantages: This is one of the few current readers with standard AA batteries. They add bulk, but the slim reader, I was before this crippled replace a defective battery, which was not practicable. The new generation of "pre-charged" (low self-discharge) NiMH batteries are a very economical choice for this device.

Summary: fair enough for the money--when on sale

I was pretty happy with this, so 3 stars. The disadvantages are: It is very slow. Click and expect a quick response not simply be the case. You need to, dass at first and when I clicked no answer, I clicked again, and by the time I had crossed to the device, which was caught looking.

I'm enjoying my Asus Netbook for the bed and read, like a light is not necessary, and I do not disturb my wife. There is no way this JetBook in bed without reading a light source, didturbs sleep then the other person. and the reflections on the screen from the light source is hard to ignore.

dictionary is a very poor man, and again very slowly in order to access a word. If the word to come up to me, the specifications are inadequate, and sometimes not.

the alpha-numerics on the site are in both English and Russian, Russian .. Why? Languages supported me bizarre, Russian, Polish? I can understand Spanish, German ... but why not French, itaian ... rather than Polish or Russian.

There is every possibility of the screen is damaged. it has no protection against scratches or even worse, if supported in a handbag, bag, etc. My wife is a case for me to sew.

, the weight is there when the batteries no batteries, it would be to meet their standards, not on when you read in bed to show it is mediocre, with one hand to control the access, ie reading with the device in the one hand, while slipping with the same hand with the thumb to click control is awkward, and I can see how the device could be out of the hands, if possible, make that ... Screen will be damaged.

by placing the product on a table in the screen could also cause damage is when the screen flat on the table, it always takes him with the spirit of setting the screen to the top ... minimized but not eliminated damage issues.

I'm not happy with everything he screen tones, the property with a gray background to me makes it more difficult reading, I want more contrast with a light background perfer. when they say it's like wallpapaer, they have "a very old book with paper-aging.

and, finally, there is no way to brigtness control, in the twilight, it is very difficult to read. Once more, you need another source. with my laptop, or netbook, this is not a problem, as the brightness can be controlled. I also like the backlight of the screen from the netbook .. better contrast. I think the reading of the netbook does not cause my eyes are tired, but on this ECTACO JetBook the eyes do not get tired. more so, with a room that is dim. I also found it difficult to read in direct sunlight, if not impossible, without the screen to a little shade ... which is not always possible to say at the beach.

I like the replaceable battery is the size is good, the weight ok-ish, it seems well made and on sale it is a fair deal ... but only under a one hundred-fifty, more than that, and I would not buy.

Addendum: This is the Lite version does a better version, and I saw it for sale elsewhere for a wholly twenty! this is way way overpriced. I should have googled.

Summary: Affordable eBook Reader with Some Shortcomings

Yahoo - I have been waiting for an eBook reader with excellent readability and ergonomics for $ 150, and here it is: the Ectaco JetBook Lite.

No, not the JBL wireless communications, and no, it does not play mp3s. I have a small device called an mp3 player that does exactly that!

What does the JBL Serve supports a variety of ebook formats, including mobile format of the New York Public Library, together with eReader DRM FictionBook, plain text, PDF, EPUB, and others.

The JBL not e-Ink technology. Instead, sport a very readable LCD screen with the added advantage over E-Ink screens of fast Turn the page: as fast as possible to apply a sheet of paper, in fact.

The JBL-screen provides high-contrast black text on white background, similar to the Nook unity and better than the Kindle, from the photos I've ever seen.

I read "The Mysterious Island" on the JBL for several hours without eye fatigue. Although light in my dark apartment on the first floor is not the best, take it nice on the background.

There are two page-turning controls, one on the left side of the device, the other on the front below the screen. Both are well suited for use in the left hand while his right hand free to hold on a subway pole or the band.

The JBL sports several built dictionaries, makes it easy to look up words in English or translate them from other languages. The device also comes with a number of classics on board, including Shakespeare, Dickens, Joyce, the Bible, and much more.

You can also plug an SD card, the expansion of space to hold an enormous number of ebooks - enough for even the longest holiday abroad or the longest journey!

The JBL also "plays well" with Windows XP. My computer immediately recognized it (well) after a pause for the obligatory reboot, and it is easy to copy files to my computer.

I had created a little trouble finding Mobi some books which I copied to the Mobipocket Reader on my computer, I found her with the unity file manager routine in a second folder, it was for the purpose. I later used the workplace to these files in the original book of the unit folder that the resumption of reading much faster and easier when the device-making move.

The JBL is rated to run for more than 20 hours on four AA batteries. I have is with high-performance NiMH rechargeable batteries and the power meter reading, still in full after several hours of reading. This certainly had better, the Franklin eBookMan, I have - and the JBL does not lose his memory when you change the batteries!

You can not see in the photos, but the device has a bulge to accommodate the back of the left hand side to the battery chamber. That actually makes the reader comfortable in your left hand to hold, and it serves as a handy stand, if you switch to landscape mode while you eat on the table.

Finally JBL fits nicely into my back jeans pocket.

What can I say? If you do not care about wireless capabilities ... If you already have an MP3 player ... and if you have better things to do with your money than to spend more than two hundred shells on an eBook Reader ... Check out the ECTACO JetBook Lite.

It is important and shows an entire library of ebooks with first-class readability and ergonomics, and that's where it really counts!

UPDATE: I made the mistake of selling to protect the arrangement of the silicon sleeve Ectaco to "the JBL. It does not fit very well, which does not protect the screen, and delivered at 34 U.S. dollars, it offers poor value for money.

It also feels quite slippery, it needs texturing to improve your grip. In short, I am afraid it will make me fall JBL when turning a page, eliminating its usefulness protection unit. I do not recommend it and encourage you to seek a protective sleeve / pouch from a third party (other breeders Ectaco pockets were more expensive) at $ 50 and $ 100 and not including shipping.

I would do it again, unless that Ectaco costs by 6% and less an administrative fee not refunded the exorbitant $ 14 shipping charge. Ugh!

FIX number two: Though Ectaco claimed that the PDB supports DRM JBL pounds, there were problems - mainly slow songs opening times, no choice of font size and lack of text when you switch sides. I just downloaded their latest firmware update (January 5, 2010), and I regret to say that the missing text remains a problem. So if DRM books are important to you, you should give the JBL.

I've got a star for the DRM affects performance, and deducted the expensive accessories. I hope Ectacto will correct these deficiencies, sooner rather than later, and they could have a real candidate for travelers on a budget. In the meantime, it is frustrating that we seem to serve as beta testers owners ...

Summary: Good litte e-reader for someone on a strict budget.
I've had my Jetbook Lite for about a week now and have already fallen in love with it. So far I've taken it with me to the doctor's office waiting room and yes reading on the toilet. And, I do think you will read more with this portable device (can fit in your loose pocket). The one I purchased came pre-loaded with books that I was already reading (Time Machine, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) on my laptop using mobipocket reading software. It is better reading on this device than a laptop because it is very light weight (under 1 lbs) and the screen has no backlight (also it has a high resolution) which eliminates some of the eye fatigue when reading for long periods. I purchased a 4GB SD memory card for extra storage; it cost me only $8.99 on amazon. 4GB, is huge for storing all your books and periodicals (manufacturer says device can support up to 32GB memory cards). The device supports a lot of book formats including being able to read DRM books from the Barnes and Noble book store. PDFs are difficult to display on the 5 inch screen you can rotate the screen to landscape mode and that helps to keep from having to scroll when trying to view PDF documents. This device unlike the Sony pocket reader has a built-in dictionary to look up words you don't understand, you just select the word and it will pull it up and give you a definition. It also comes pre-loaded with foreign language dictionaries in Russian, German, Polish, and Spanish. You can also read foreign language books, which is cool if you are studying a foreign language and want to practice reading the language. If you are looking for an inexpensive e-reader, I recommend giving it a try; no it doesn't come with 3G like the Kindle, so if being able to download anywhere the latest books from your favorite authors is important to you, pass on this one and check out the Amazon Kindle, the Sony Daily Edition, or the Barnes and Noble Nook (these have 3G internet access, but cost more).

Summary: Warning: all sales final at Sony Reader store

Once your book is not purchased for download, as I recently, good luck for a refund from Sony. Their policy is that all sales are final. Understandably, when the "goods are actually delivered," but if it does not load on my computer that is a case where a refund would receive. Sony does not see it the same way. Dealing with the people at the Sony support has been a nightmare. Wait several e-mails, telephone calls (long at least half an hour per call), with the promise of Sony, that someone call me back within 24 hours. Ridiculous. I'm out $ 39.99 Sony is a customer. Summary: Piece of Junk...

I bought this reader for my wife about a year ago. Worked great, but then the load / reset fiasco began. In short, this device is something wrong with their battery power and charging system. Unfortunately I had not yet looked at the Sony support page to see how many people are under the same problems. Basically it depends on 8 of 10 cases during some stage charging - the people for solutions - charge it 16 hours, etc, etc are totally ridiculous in today's world of reliable devices. This device is stable and screws - both on any Mac or PC - consistently and provocatively. Six months ago I bought a Kindle - do yourself a favor, stay Kindle - the Sony device has been seriously damaged.

Summary: Loved it at first......

I purchased the Sony PRS-505 in February 2009. For the first month or so I had no problem with the device and was really loving it. Then suddenly would begin to freeze and I would have rolled back through the small hole on the back and it would be nice to be back for a while. It happened several times over the next few months, and I called customer support on three occasions and went through the whole reinstall, re-calculated, etc. I think even bought the expensive Sony AC adapter, which could contribute to the collection with my PC. Since this is only a small problem to fix itself, I eventually lived with him.

Sony then upgrade to 3.0 software and the fact that another disaster was, it seemed, they can see a few problems with the 2.0 software was (namely, for me the possibility to connect to the Sony Store easy), but also removes some of the outstanding characteristics of the firm have used software such as the possibility of paying pounds (it only works when you set up a collection and not transmitted) in the main library and now click and drag / on a train an entire collection. But these were little annoyances, so I lived with them.

Then about 8 months after I bought them suddenly, the power button is not turned off and the sides would again freeze. I would have a hard shutdown every time I wanted it off, because the sleep mode no longer works so well. After a couple of puts it to work again for a few weeks. Then began the dismantling of the battery after only reading a 200 page book. While all this was occurring, I had built my PC again and the Sony e-library and re-installed the first time that I re-charged after I got my computer back all of my problems seemed to go with it, so I thought that mabye the problem had something to do with my computer. So for the next few months as it was in the first month I had bought it and I was back in my honeymoon phase of the love of the instrument. Then three days ago, the power button and the battery began to fail again, and now Sony will not recognize my library when I connect the reader and says it is a mistake.

This sucks really, because the main reason I bought this e-reader on the Kindle, as most books I buy are not available or too expensive to buy on Amazon, and I have it downloaded on my computer before transferring it anyway . FYI: I rarely buy from the Sony store, because the books are just as expensive as the Kindle Store. One of my favorite e-book trade is fictionwise.com, which actually is part of Barnes and Noble, so that if all bought my books on there would be transferable to the new Nook that soon a miracle? In any case, this site is great because it gives you several options in the formats for download here (through multi-format option only, are not offered all the books in this way will be) and if the book you can go back and reload Bought it as many times as you like in one of the formats through the multi-format option offered, for when I finally to change and the devices have a different format, but will not buy the book once again is great.

Just think a little info for those of you that you absolutely can buy from the Sony store. Each e-book Web site invites the book on your computer in a convertible format, Sony (just check each site size options) to transfer before you buy and you only in your Sony e-reader with a few clicks on the keyboard. Some may not be as slim as the. LTF Sony format, but is still legible.

Back to my review .... At this point I am totally with this e-book readers are tired of waiting for the reviews of Nook on the new Barnes and Noble to see if maybe an option to buy. It disturbs me greatly that I had this e-reader for less than a year and am ready to throw it out the window. I'm tired of professional customer service and I am really sad that I have had so much trouble with this device, because I love the sturdy aluminum frame on the plastic frame of the Kindle, and I never really saw no need for the keyboard that takes up so much space on the Kindle. I also liked the fact that I had books on the library to download it, and my own collections, further minimizing any key to use in accessing my books, it also has a Memory Stick slot to make a backup copy of all books easily. These were the outlets in choosing the Sony over the Kindle. Although the price of the Kindle has gone down considerably at this point, Sony has a lot more points in order to sell it than to buy the Kindle. It's just a shame that I apparently bought a unit that was a lemon.

UPDATE: Since this review, I have one more step to have taken me to solve the problems with reformatting the internal memory. It wipes out all the books on ereader but they were easy enough to transfer back to the Sony library. Since then (it was two weeks), I had absolutely no problems with the reader. The power button and battery are working just fine again and it has not been frozen pages. If this goes the honeymoon phase of my love continues to play on this device, but I'm still holding my breath because I thought I had solved the problems start in the past only for them again with it. If it continues to work as efficiently as it was then I add to this review for anyone else has similar problems as mine did. I do not think I want to change that rating, because I never had these problems from the outset.

Summary: Very Happy With It!

I have a lot of research and treatment of the Kindle, Nook or the Sony Reader. I really thought I wanted the Kindle, but on doing a bit of research, found that a lot of the features that I thought I would not need / all this, what I had expected. The magazine subscriptions sounded great, until I saw a very limited number of magazines available. They are all business and news mags, do not go get, Cosmopolitan and parents. The same is true for newspapers - I live in Central New Jersey, and we read the Asbury Park Press and The Star-Ledger - the next available newspaper the New York Times - not good enough for me. I liked the idea of the audio reading, but found not to permit some authors of this option is not on their books. So that is said, why pay money for features that I do not want? The Sony Reader, you can accept a variety of file types, so you can get books from Sony Store, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and even sellers on eBay. I understand that Amazon Kindle to books is limited, and Nook B & N is limited only books.

The Pocket Edition is not wireless, but it's really not a problem. It takes less than 2 minutes on the web from my laptop to go, and choose to buy a book and transfer to my readers. I thought I wanted wireless Kindle or Nook, because I could go on the net, but I've said that you do not - it can only go to the online estore.

Once again why the need for all those features you really do not want to pay for it? This is a great reader at a reasonable price! The pocket size makes much more sense if you want to throw it in your pocket to take to the beach or check out the Dr. office - the larger ones are almost too big to tote around. I thought the nook in my hands at Barnes and Noble, and felt that it was difficult - actually, kind of top heavy. If I place on the lower corners (which I think is usually a hard cover book), I thought it wanted to tip back. Embarrassing and uncomfortable. In addition, the touch screen on the Nook is very small - the girl in the shop hit the wrong things when they show it to me.

I'm absolutely love this product and would highly recommend it!

Summary: MAC friendly easy to use e-reader

The Sony Reader is a pocket e-reader for people who want a small compact unit. Overall, this device is a little larger than a paperback book so that it fit well in their hands.

Pro

Sony Reader Software Library 3.1 works great on a Mac.

Ability to check out e-books from the local library

Ability to download. Epub, pdf, and. Txt to the e-reader. Not all readers will support these formats, so you will not be able to download various free-pounds.

Ability to store books on my desktop Mac for backup purposes.

Battery life

Book Easy to use navigation keys.

Not a touch screen (which is both a pro and a con)

Small, compact size (it fits really well in my coat pocket inside)

You can import your own script, if you saved it as pdf, txt, or epub format.

Number of free e-book sites on the Internet (Google Books, World Public Library, Project Gutenberg, etc. ..)

Con's

No integrated Wi-Fi, so you need not read books with your Mac or pc. For some people, like me, the lack of Wi-Fi is not important.

Not a touch screen (which is both a pro and a con)

Zoom controls only a selection of 3 small, medium and large. Other Sony models have a 5 zoom election ..

Non-user replaceable battery, so that future compensation will need to be carried out by Sony.

Do not do e-ink display, graphics and image detail as fine as a book by.

Summary: Sharing books is the problem

I like the Sony PRS-300. In fact, I liked it so much I bought for my wife to get a Christmas and was in my son-in-law to buy for my daughter to be influential. But that's when the problem has arisen.

I assumed there would be a sensible way for us all to exchange books. After all, we know that with "real" books. And cost of electronic books as much as "real" books, it must do a reasonable manner. WRONG!

I had scoured the Sony literature and FAQs and found nothing that, as you do this, explain, so I thought it must be simplified so simple and obvious that it is not required and explanation. It turns out that there is only one way to something practical, and another way that nobody would ever put up with.

The only way this is something practical is that they all use the same account. Up to six devices (including computers the same account) to use, so theoretically you could have a computer and five readers on the same account. The reason does not work for me and my family is that we are much more independent than that, each with its own computer and we do not all live in the same house. Plus, I do not want to know that all the bills on my credit card.

For me, this is a significant limitation of current digital rights management (DRM) implementation for ePub books used. When ePub books were much smaller than printed books cost, as it should, then this is not such a big issue. But with the ePub pounds costs about the same as the physical diversity and the elimination of the ability to divide and sell or donate the book when you've finished that an imbalance in the value proposition causes. I can not buy used books, either.

Up to this exchange / sale / donation restriction will be removed from ePub pounds, all I care to think about how you will use this product to the actual cost of the books to consider before buying a eReader.

And I mean WOW! I researched eReaders and opted for this type, and I'm in love with her. The best feature that I like is that I can download my books from the local library, in contrast to "other" readers where to buy the books. Sure, I go through my computer, but it is a simple point, click and drag! If you want to read only books, this is a great product!

Summary: The Toyota Corolla of portable readers

The Sony Pocket Reader is a solid quality portable eReader. It fits in your wallet. also with a lot of crowding around within the closed protective case, it will not accidentally and draining the batteries are supplied with electricity. Just a little background for the readers .. I ham a former owner of the Amazon Kindle. I was very happy with it. I have to be given to a family member over to Afghanistan. that gave me a perspective on the pros and cons of the Pocket Reader.

What I like most:

-glare-free reading on the pages

Access to public libraries. Sony seems to have broad partnerships with public libraries. I could download Dick Francis' "10 pounds. Penalty" on Christmas Day.

The Sony E-Book Store is similar to Apple's iTunes. I was able to download books immediately by my familiarity with the iTunes format.

-There is room for 300 + pounds

Easy page-turning and book marking. I found it easy to segue into the reading experience.

Areas of Improvement

-No wireless or Whispernet capability. The Pocket Reader is a device that papoose live on a computer with Internet access need.

-Only 3 font sizes. If you are reading glasses to read the small font with 1,50 reading glasses

The eBook Store has a very limited choice and higher prices. Only give one example, the first 2 "Twilight" books in the Kindle Store is about $ 5.00. Store them on the e-book is 9.99. This is higher than the paperback price at Wal-Mart and Target.

The e-book store has about 2 newspapers.

All in all, a high budget low cost for your ereader biliophile everyone.

Summary: Best reader for reading only

I've had the Sony Reader in a month. This is the perfect read for the casual reader player.

PROS:

1) Perfect form factor: I like the light weight and small form. I like reading in bed. Feel all readers would be larger and heavier, awkward and uncomfortable after a while.

2) Book format: I could download eBooks from the public library and Google public areas with ease. I already have a large paper book library, and I intend to use the reader to read more classics.

3) Magazine & Newspaper: I use Caliber magazines for download to complete my follow-up of current events. Caliber works smoothly with the reader.

4) Build quality: high quality construction. The screen is good.

5) Price: Prize for the best quality.

CONS:

1) Limited has: this reader single-purpose device. There are no bells and whistles such as online downloads, MP3 players, multimedia capability, notes, etc.

2) Software: the Reader software can support library to be improved.

3) configuration: the control button in the middle is a little awkward to use.

4) Format: For textbook reading with mathematical formula, it is impossible to read if the font size to medium or large.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a single-purpose device and it works well, especially if you live off-line transfer from a PC. With the wealth of many new eReaders of CES 2010, the rate has continued to come down. The Sony Reader will continue its leadership position as a very simple product, that's all I need.

Summary: great Sony digital reader pocket edition, weak e-book store

Great reader, I liked it and it was easy to handle. Nevertheless, I have it again today in the bookstore, where I had bought them.

The e-book business, e-books sold to readers, can not get receipts for your purchases! Contact the support team were frustrating. A customer service person did not seem to understand why you want a receipt (allows me to write my work to) certain books. Another suggested that I understand the software / device wrong, or that it is really all of the bookstore's fault that the e-Reader was sold with.

As a solution to the problem of the lack of reception was not planned, I returned to the reader, where I purchased it. Sadly, as I liked it.

Summary: Perfect for what it was made for!!!

I almost never write for my products, what is wrong, because I rely heavily on reviews to make my purchase. So with, that I found that I needed to start writing some, and this is the perfect place to start ..

The Sony PRS-300 is a fantastic travel e-reader and is as such. The size makes portability easy. I have researched a lot before we end this and I am very happy with my purchase. I read books as a treat. I do not hilight, comment, notes in the margins, and I have no need for a dictionary while reading my books. So these are not needed in my choice for a reader. The Sony range of readers are great because they can use a very large number of formats, more than just about everyone else. They are also compatible with the local library ebook check outs. AFAIK, the Kindle is not part of the library to check out, I think, may be the Nook.

The size is 300 for the reading of a hand without perfectly tired and the screen size, while the smaller (5 ") than the other" main stream "Readers (6) is still large enough to comfortably read. The sharpness of the words on the 300 is unprecedented in comparison to other readers. The PRS-600 suffers from some glare issues on the touch screen, and the contrast is not as crisp compared to the 300th Overall, the eink technology is perfect on this device.

This unit is for what it purports to be perfect, and that a small portable device that does not have Wi-Fi or other characteristics of the larger higher-priced units. So, if you're like me and you just want to read books, this is a great unit. If you want to take notes, or want / need a dictionary, then spend the extar for another device. For those of you trying to read these reviews to decide on a device that does not please, no faith in the 1 star reviews who complain that there is no backlight, wireless, dictionary, etc. .. IT does not claim to do so they do not knock on with. And someone has it 1 star because it on ice for customer service at Christmas?? I would not expect perfect service on that day.

And claims for the reviewers that it is not certain formats, "it works - do not accept Word and text files, it does not accept free eBooks from the Internet such as Google Books," It is definitely not. Doc and. Txt, I have the files on my device and read them well. I also have dozens of free eBooks downloaded from Google, Gutenberg, etc. .. many of them classics, and they load and read perfectly.

This is a great unit for what it was designed to do, and you will not regret buying it. I'll probably look into increasing reader (7) "for home use, and probably with wireless streaming newspapers or news, but my primary book reader for traveling and at home will be for a longer reading.

Summary: Back to the drawing board for Sony

I received the PRS300 as a Christmas gift and it went back today. I used a demo at a local chain bookstore, and was not impressed. It is not the function and scroll function is very slowly and continuously, bypassing the preinstalled books as I used to and I did track back and forth. In the pre-loaded Cookbook, "the ingredients on the next page and the directions you need to rotate back and forth, for example. I could be treated with the lack of wireless capabilities have, but I wanted this device for my scientific work and research, and only a few titles I need are available. I also noticed, in just a few minutes I had to it that the "front page" with contents already stamped itself on the screen when I was turned off. There exist no screen saver, if I leave them on for a while without the side mirrors.

Even the battery is not replaceable by the user - additional $ 125 to 150, when it finally no more fees? No, thanks. You have it for free on your computer or an adapter for the purchase of an additional $ 30. It's for what you get - almost $ 200 too expensive? Try $ 100 since you must return it to Sony to replace the battery within a few years.

If you're a casual reader, such as biographies and pop fiction, and prepared to press even when the battery will take no more charges, this is for the reader for you.

Summary: A True Reader!

Here is what I like about the Sony Pocket readers.

1. Size. You can easily hold and operate it with one hand. Excellent ergonomics and portability

2. Easy. No complicated controls. Very easy to set up software on the PC and then sync to device. Everything you need to do is drag and drop pounds in the device.

3. Screen clarity. Very good readability. Though only 8 levels of adjustment, I think the pocket reader has the best picture clarity. The reason could be the smaller screen size will increase the contrast.

4. Build quality. Feels solid and well built all round. Truly a joy to hold!

5. Supported formats. Very simple drag and drop PDFs and other documents in order. I am also able to borrow books from my local library.

6. I have the leather cover with built-in LED light and it works very well for dark lighting conditions. The case is very good as well designed. Another plus point is that the light used its own AAA batteries and therefore does not drain the readers internal battery.

7. Fantastic battery life! Amazing battery. I read almost every day for a few hours and I can just over a week, without the reader will be charged.

What pleases me about the reader?

1. Sony Reader software is ok - seems a lot like iTunes. But I'm used to it, and I have no problems using it.

2. Reader may have problems in dealing with very large pounds. The reader software may crash when you load a really great book on the pocket edition, although loads the same book only touch on my output. It could be the processor is not as powerful on the pocket edition. However, this is only for a book so happens that it's not a deal breaker.

Overall.

As a mere reader, this is probably the best product on the market today. It is an excellent value if the Kindle has the poor build quality and less support for open standards to take you to the hundreds of thousands of books from public libraries and Google .... access compared to ebooks, but you can get help with wireless Kindle, which it is easier to buy, books on the device itself. For me, the books on the device itself have been a factor, so, why not always a pocket edition of my existing Sony was buying complementary output touch an easy decision.

Summary: A good product design that failed to execute

Sony, we love and hate them. They come with stylish design and many features over the competition, then decides to do some priorietary technology that do not play well with the masses to block. In an ideal world I would have a reader that is sexy and all formats, and HTML with all the different encodings. For me this is the main form of them all, because the richest source obtained the information from HTML pages. This device is not HTML directly, but he claims he can do PDF, so I settled for that.

However, after the initial excitement of reading standard conversion of several books and online content, I found it very cumbersome to operate. Yes, there are several free programs that do all kinds of format conversions, but none had worked well so far. I read a lot of Chinese text and to convert an HTML-based Chinese text in PDF, or ePub BBEB or is extremely slow to load and read. It is the text in order, but will in minutes and turn to a page will increase to take good advantage to 30 seconds. I tried different techniques and none worked well enough to make me believe this is a mature product.

Also content in English are slow, if it has photos. I have some free distribution of documents to be professionally distributed, and it is still not acceptable. If it takes me 20 seconds to read through a page, I do not want to spend up to 30 seconds to make a page. It really runs on the essentials. A specialized product like this has to do what it should do very well, otherwise with netbooks today for $ 200 - $ 300 I do not see the need for a dedicated reader in general.

ps I must admit that perhaps buy Sony's strategy for people to its online content is funnel, and maybe their content is optimized to be used for this viewer. But then we have all suffered from the Betamax and MiniDisc and Memory Stick and blah blah blah. Even a product as successful as generic iPod supports MP3s, and it remains the most popular music format, so I for the day Sony sees the same light of hope.

Summary: The software is the problem

The reader itself is wonderful. The compact, fits in my pocket and I can read hundreds of books about him. It was wonderful, I was sooo happy. Until the Sony software has crashed. So I reinstalled, and it was back for 3 weeks before the crash again and again and again and again yes. The software is glitchy when you open the software that allows you to buy in the store, books or new books on there are so many problems made access. 1 The program is not always open. It just will not open the window is not displayed. Sometimes the reader is not recognized. But you can not just unplug the reader and plug it because it says you have to eject it, so you spend all your time to shut down the computer to the wire, so try again and it did not work again. I liked this product only for the Sony software that sux so I had there was a star for functions. Sony needs to make better software. I bought a Kindle, because I was soooo angry at Sony. Do not waste your money on this frustration, instead of buying ignite!

Summary: Truly a Pocket Reader
This Sony pocket reader is the best e-reader I've owned so far. While the color is described as pink, it is more of a dark ruby-pink, very attractive color - a guy would not be weirded out by carrying one of these around. It does not have a lot of bells and whistles on it, but the best thing about it is...it just works. There's no fooling around, plug it in, charge it up, download your books and your are ready to go. The screen clarity is much better than previous gen Sony e-readers, and the battery seems to last a bit longer. It lasts up to about 7-10 days with everyday reading. You will want to charge it fully if you haven't used it in a week or so. You can read in landscape or regular. Buttons are quick to respond, you can bookmark pages, jump back and forth within a book or between books. The size is perfect for female, smaller hands, but doesn't get lost in your boyfriend's big paws either. And, it is not cutting board size, or ugly like some other e-readers out there. No, it doesn't have a touch screen or wireless downloads or a pointless mini color screen, but I don't find that I miss those things. They are readily available to buy, the selection of books you will be able to buy for this reader is expanding and you can borrow e-books for downloading from your public library. The reader software has improved a lot, is faster and makes it easy to find your books, whether you are looking for them on your computer or e-reader. Definitely worth a look and worth its price.

Summary: Great, but new buyers need more info

Honestly, there are much better reviews out there than I can write myself, but I believe that every purchase of this version of the Sony Reader (requires 500) for more information. In November 2009, Sony has a mail reader to current 500 owners can be issued knowing that they update the 500 firmware to be able to use another form of e book and it will not work if they do not updated. This is not a simple plug-in and load it yourself can run, you need your readers in this email to have the update. They say it takes 14 days to get back to your readers, I know that when I bought my readers in this period, and found out after the fact, that I would ship it immediately back to Sony for an update for two weeks I will be ticked. This is not to say you should not buy one, just know that when you buy this version, the first generation of readers, you see, have to send it to them. Enter a prepaid shipping label to ship it to them, so there are no shipping costs for you and they do the update for free and send them back, you pay nothing extra, except for your shipping and packaging materials.

How do I upgrade to the reader sans, I have no problems with it, I can easily carry several books, the battery holds a surprisingly long time, the pages are easy to read and font size is adjusted very easily. I hope that when you buy a card reader, no matter which version you like, we can enjoy it as I do.

Summary: Sony = JUNK

NOOOOOO Do not let the Sony model! It is JUNK! I had one for 3 months and it broke twice! For the first time Bestbuy replaced it but the second time it was after the 30-day return policy (yes, it broke in 3 weeks) and the second time it broke not Sony want to fix, she says I broke the SCREEN! I did not break the screen The screen is fragile and the framework for the Sony Reader is weak and flimsy! Definitely ruin a manufacturer. So I filled a complaint with the BBB, because Sony wanted to fix cost me $ 250 for a 300-dollar device. I told Sony to take a long walk of a short pier, and that I will never buy another Sony product EVER again.

I now have a Kindle and a year later, no problems! Same for the screen manufact FYI only a better picture that the abuse can handle. And I dropped my light the time!

Sony Reader = Junk!

Summary: I looove it!

I have been waiting to buy the eBook, as it came out. I finally released some cash and bought it used. It is great! Easy to use and comfortable. I miss the smell of a paperback book and the feeling of a book, a little, but that is definitely not! For an avid reader ... this is a must have!
