Summary: A good alternative to the Kindle

It is a reader, what I do to save - and map pounds - and nothing else will. That's what I think about how. The Kindle is designed to make it as easy as possible to buy from Amazon, that his main reason for existence. Amazon also discourages you from your eBooks elsewhere by them to Amazon to be converted. It's none of that nonsense with the Opus - you just join, and add the books you want.

It's a nice little machine (the ads do not really give you an idea of how little it is - it is slightly larger than a frozen waffle). The display is very readable, and the interface, although is a little strange at first quite easy to handle. I give it four stars because it has a tendency to have uncomfortable moments are not frozen, as an alternative to the Kindle hegemony, I would be a BEBOOK, also very simple and inexpensive, or Sony Reader can (but only if you have a PC ).

Summary: Decent bare-bones reader but hope you don't ever need aftermarket support

Bookeen has been about much more than the Kindle, and for a long time it was one of the few readers that could be purchased in U.S. states such that it has developed quite a loyal following in international circles.

However, Bookeen has a high degree of loyalty of their customers through the introduction of faulty software and firmware updates that promise delivered when, are often more than a year later than previously announced lost. Sony and Kindle, however, both have major upgrades via firmware within the first year of ownership (I had all three - at this point the Kindle DX my readers the choice with the Sony's) is a close seconds.

I like things on the Cybook:

1. The ePub support means you have a very large number of bookstores and public libraries to purchase from which your reading material (though Amazon Kindle titles will not work.

2. SD slot - provides a mechanism for the organization by fiction books on an SD card and not fiction on another, or other "file" you can imagine.

3. Screen - because Cybook is the touch screen is given fashion (like Sony), the display clear and very easy to read.

4. Interface is easy to use and look of the device is stylistically "pure." I think that iphone with the whole thing, and buttons are downgraded, this reader has minimal buttons, but that does not affect usability.

Things I do not like about the Cybook:

1. Firmware buggy and tends Bookeen is not big on fixing this error ... E-mail if you need technical support, and if you want an answer, it will probably be informed that a workaround is available, and there is a firmware update "soon". However, if you read article, one of the mobile forums, you'll find that these firmware updates are vaporware.

2. Price of 5-inch Opus is not competitive - however, that the exchange rate and do not really blame can be attributed to Bookeen.

3. Screen size - that's just my personal preference but I prefer the other properties that a bigger screen (even 6 inches makes a significant difference) provides ... If you're like me at the age of middle, you are probably notice at the outset that it only read a little bit easier if you increase the font size. I know many disagree with me on this - they want something that is smaller and more "portable", so again have that is very much a personal preference thing ...

4. ePub - the older reader Cybook supports Mobi (forerunner of the Amazons AZW format), a far superior format in terms of size and legibility. I personally am not wild about the EPUB format, but to win, unfortunately not always the best format standards battle (such as Sony - they are painfully aware of!)

5. Post-sales support is abysmal. Again, just do a search on Cybook firmware upgrade and you will always see fundamentally new frustrations with customers dumping their eReaders out of sheer frustration because Bookeen so little regard for current customers, and appears only in the acquisition of new interests.

If you would like a smaller reader, I think there are better opportunities out there - like the Astak Inc Astak 5-inch Pocket Pro (Blue) EZ-reader or even the Sony Reader Digital Pocket Edition - Silver (PRS300SC), and they have a proven track record for supporting their products.

There are so many ways, the reader at this point, what's important, of what is important, others for me. But I think everyone should be able to agree that if you spend several hundred dollars on a device sold by the manufacturer that they support him - Bookeen fails miserably at this and for that reason alone I would encourage others, an opinion that many other readers that are available on the market today.

Summary: Good but sensitive.

It is small but sufficiently sized and makes a good portable. He came with a protective case to case.

I loaded it with a large number of files to test it and after the second meeting of uploading files to the device, some files were not readable. Then it is even worse and it would not display all files (not upload this time, I have damaged the unit guessign the fs even more, by) his own files for the flash.

After both uploads I have safely remove hardware on a Vista PC 64, so why am I only filesystem corruption?

Then it got even more fun. I backed up what I reformatted the machine and was able to. First-format lasted about an hour, reported many bad blocks, and failed. So I tried quickly that the Flash format and made available on device, but Windows is still reporting a problem with the fs.

Next, I have a USB cable that I know is good, instead of the one that comes with the work, and also draws power from 2 USB slots instead of one (not that I needed because I unit charged before use of IT). Was not sure if they have an influence on things, but then I formatted it again, this time with FAT32, and there were no bad blocks. Perhaps the cable that came with the work, was shaky, or maybe usb opus switches to power, and when attached to a USB port was not easy to give sufficient power.

Unfortunately, I do not know if the internal memory is fully functional, now that I collect a 2 gig card I had MSD dust made, and nothing so far to get back corrupt. Everything I in the internal flash memory for now, a set of fonts. (supports different fonts, they must be placed only in the Fonts folder).

If you do this: Back up the contents of the device before you do anything else. The device will not return to what it needs, they should get wiped, you will only lose the free books, it comes with.

Except that the device is nice, it does not support a few formats (that's the reason why I selected) is working well with a 2-gig MSD card. Invites (I created in Flash, if I feel happy and bored).

Only improvements I would make is to add a wrist strap of some kind, because I am afraid that I will drop him.

Overall, a good compact unit, hopefully my fs corruption only event was either a bad USB cable to the device or simply came just a happy coincidence.

Summary: I love my Opus too!
I'd have not bought an ereader died since my Palm and I have - also purchased over 800 ebooks since 2002, when after a small house, where I could not possibly store your paper. Also, I had a Kindle 1st gen, which was given to me by a friend. I could see why she betrayed her after I used it for about 2 hours, it's in a drawer ever since. I hated the style of the Kindle, the button arrangement and the delicate keyboard, do not buy the book, and limited opportunities to mention that I could not read a single book of mine own library. Breathe wrong, and it changed sides or went back to the home menu. The menu was in itself confusing.

Still needs a ereader so I did some research and then the Cybook Gen 3 from Books on Board purchased some 14 months ago, which I for its simplicity and the E-Ink technology, which is absolutely great love. I love books that I buy from everywhere, and therefore do not need wireless.

When I saw the Opus I knew I wanted the smaller version. I like the smaller screen, because it's more like reading a paperback book. I have a home on the opus, and how I wanted the smaller size, as well as smitten hold a paperback, except that it is easy and can either be held in the hand, read portrait or landscape mode, which I often prefer , fits in my bag, ideal for reading in airports, in bed, check out books to read free eBooks, etc. My husband bought me the most cool for Christmas after all the hints. (Incidentally, I've always preferred to the SD card, and did not return my books now, which I with everything).

Reading reviews of the Bookeen Support me blink, because I have never had problems with Books on Board. The service is far superior to Bookeen from what I read here, they respond politely to my e-mails immediately with the technical assistance that is all that I needed so far.

Regarding the price, it was pretty much in the range of other, smaller screen reader and I was already familiar with the brand so my choice was likely to make much easier.

Summary: Love it.

I had to ignite the first generation. This has ignited a lot better than 1. Much better reading experience, take a very long battery, and look better. Also, PDF files, shows well, and support all major formats ebook. But no wireless connection, which I do not care. EBooks you can see in other places.

I use software to convert calibers and manage ebooks and transfer files on Cybook. Caliber is free and excellent, by the way.

Summary: Nice but doesn't last long
A very poor product made. Owned it for 3 months and my Bookeen froze and would not turn on or off. Recharged the battery, such as customer service told me, and now it will do all, Flash is the image with the image of it to Bookeen. Customer service is very slow to respond. I think I'm going to limit my losses and just buy a Sony ereader.Bookeen Cybook Opus - eBook Reader 400 MHz - RAM: 32 MB - Flash: 1 GB - 5 "monochrome e-ink (800 x 600)

Summary: notes from an ereader rookie
Warning: The Cybook is my first ereader opus, so I do not really know no better.

I was so excited just to wait out for it! Overall I am happy with him. The contrast is very good, and it seems more likely to happen than I had expected. But it seems to slow down considerably if you use a stick 2GB microSD in it. The accelerometer is more convenient, although I think I have to work almost by accident. Very thin and light and I can really say how easy the display to the eye compared to a laptop LCD.

I like that I can work like a flash drive so I move my files, I can arrange to keep fit. He came with a lot of books in different languages. I like that has native support for JPG, PDF and HTML. In fact, I think it is a better job of displaying HTML as ePub, although it might, because of errors in the ePub format to be yourself. The JPGs, while black and white, are surprisingly sharp, and it can (a slideshow of your photos and / or play files.)

I only wish there is a way of organizing the way your books are presented in the library, not everytime we to look for your books. You can sort them by file name, path and date, but that does not work all the time for certain things. For example, if I were to upload PDF files to my yoga routines, I am the first on the page all the time like.

Summary: The French rock, yea!

I was never a fan of the book that readers keyboards like the christening or have too many buttons like the Sony 300th It is very slim and lightweight. One word of advice, do not use an SD card into the device until they upgrade the firmware version, it freezes when you use the SD card. Being left-handed I like the accelerometer, that I can turn it around and use the buttons on the other side. Best price too!

Summary: Ultra-portable and straight-forward alternative
I was considering buying a Barnes and Noble Nook, until I happened to be offered on a Cybook Opus for $ 150. Within half an hour, and after reading some magazine reviews for this eBook reader, I decided it would be worth a try. I have no regrets buying the Opus.
Above all, this eBook reader is extremely portable. It is small enough to fit into my shirt pocket! One might fear that this will mean that it will be difficult for would read books on such a small device would be, but the readability is usually no problem because the font size of most file formats handled by this unit (EPUB, TXT, HTML You can make adjustments, etc.). However, font size can not be adjusted to PDF files, which brings me to my next topic.
The ability of Opus PDF files, especially DRM PDF files, as they offered, from [...] or on-line checkout from the library, was one of the main things that drew me to handle the Opus -You can not be checked out books with the Kindle. Nevertheless, one should know that can be read with the Opus PDF files cumbersome. As already mentioned, you can not re-size fonts, you can only zoom in or zoom out. With text-only books I have not found these limitations to be a problem. However, if you try to open a PDF eBook, which is very large blocks of text or many images, such as displaying a textbook, you may have some difficulties. Most of the difficulties of legibility can overcome by reading in landscape mode (ie operation of the Opus sideways), but if you're one of the few people who are with an eBook reader for PDF-View plan books, you could an eBook reader with a larger screen.
Despite all its flaws, is the main reason I love this eBook reader that DRM (Digital Rights Management handles) EPUB and PDF files that you can from your local library. If your local library subscribes digital books overdrive, you can download FREE to your opus, and all without ever having set foot in the library itself step. At home, you can, especially at night and in the dark, check out these digital books on your computer. Then you can take out of the house with the Opus during the day.
The Cybook Opus may not be perfect for every situation, but if you for an ultra-compact eBook reader, which you can apply a variety of DRM and public domain media with you in your shirt pocket, I think this product would be well for you.
