Summary: As perfect as it can be...
I have a lot of research before buying and I am very glad. It is my first ebook and very fond of it already. But it took me a while to figure out how to use it (such as the use of the dictionary). It came with a Quick Start menu, which was not very complete. You have to go online to Sony Support to obtain the user manual. I love to build the dictionary, so I'm not on a dictionary with me all the time. Love to get the ability to book from the local library. But I wish I can change the contrast, because sometimes, when lighting is poor, I would be a bit more contrast. And of course there's the shine, but not so bad. Other than the little things, it's a very good buy. I highly recommended it.

Summary: Beautiful but not perfect
Let me say first that I really love my Sony launch touch. It is a beautiful color and feels good in my hands.

It is flawed, but not more than any other e-ink devices, in my opinion. The poor contrast of dark gray text on light gray background is hard on my aging eyes. The touch screen is a bit of gloss drops, but I would not trade against the glare from lack of touch screen function. The sides are again not as fast as I had like. But I did my research and went to considerable trouble to get the hands-on time with as many options as I do, before they could be found on the Sony. None of them are terribly impressive, but this is the best of the group.

After reading a few reviews for B & N Nook, I was pretty sure that I was to get one. But when I went to the store to try it out, I was very disappointed. It was heavy, bulky, slow ... the striking LCD screen basically just out of the E-Ink screen, looking grim and depressing the other hand (no pun intended).

I was never the slightest interest in buying a Kindle, because I rarely buy new books. My local library has amazing used book sales several times a year and a large collection of ebooks, the ability to read them on my device was quite high on the list of important features. If I decide to do to buy very current books in the future, I've found that stand Sony Reader Store Amazon prices are comparable, and the same freebies as a rule, on both sides. I also have the Kindle software for my iPod, if I'm desperate, a book that is not available to read elsewhere.

All in all, I am thrilled with my purchase, although I'm sure this is not my final digital reading device. But now that I have it, I can wait patiently for the technology to catch up, my hopes and expectations.

Summary: Better than Kindle, just Sony has bad marketing dept.

I've had the Sony Reader 505 for 5 months and loved it updated, just to the touch version. You are not forced to buy from Amazon, Sony eBook Store Amazon has almost everything works, and you can ask if something is missing. Free books on Google, specially formatted for Sony Reader, No ugly keyboard at the bottom, but a virtual keyboard and can use a stylus or finger. Expandable memory slots, 2 of 'em! Can borrow books from the library.

It looks much cooler than the Kindle and the reference functions, and edit a page is great.

Summary: Garbage from Sony, broke after 2 months...
Very disappointed with this device. Bought, she thought as a gift for my wife for Christmas, it was an upgrade from our slightly older Foxit E-book reader, BIG mistake.

The screen broke after 2 months and Sony refused to fix it, claimed it was damaged by the user.

That's BS. My wife is very careful with their readers and have broken none of the rest of them, not the Foxit Reader, not their old Sony one, etc.

We have a Google search on broken PRS-600 and a total onslaught of broken 505s. It seems that readers had a big problem and this problem has been transferred, the PRS-600.

We will have American Express, repair them, she said she would reverse the cost is no problem.

Take my word for it, just google for broken or fractured PRS-600 PRS-505.

There are hundreds of them.

Summary: Glare, low contrast, and a SHOWSTOPPING bug with DRM = returned
First, the hardware: I had them side by side with the Kindle and can say objectively that the contrast and glare are much worse on the Sony product. I was willing to overlook, until I discovered that the following error, at which point I returned the reader (and the Kindle, but that's another story).

Here lies the problem:

Suppose you have a public library, which you here in both ePub eBooks and PDF format does not allow my (you do the most, I've checked). Most often they are protected by DRM-management from Adobe, which is lucky for you because that is exactly what the reader is entitled to Sony support Adobe DRM-protected ePub and PDF.

So you get online and view a PDF first and later a ePub. Everything seems fine. Then take the reader from the computer and open the PDF file. Everything is still good. Then you try to open ePub. It is not open. After chat with Sony technical support and trolling the message boards, you will discover that the reader only allows you to open DRM-protected books in the first format that you download to it. Since you copied the first time a PDF to enable the reader to only read PDF files. If you have an ePub want to download, you have to remove all DRM-protected documents from the reader and then copy the ePub. And of course, if you have done that, that you no longer able to read PDF files until you go through the whole rigamarole in the opposite direction.

This problem existed on the PRS-505, has been long documented on various message boards for almost a year and is admitted free of technical support from Sony. I escalated to learn with them, that no solution is in the pipeline. The problem makes the software they provide for your PC / Mac almost useless, because the system is designed so you automatically synchronize your library between the desktop and the device. You have to disable this feature and manually copy books to the readers. In short, a royal pain in the ass, something better than drag and drop files in Explorer / Finder.

So that is the output. A fairly well-designed piece of hardware. The understandable from the compromise between the touch screen and slightly better brightness / contrast in the Kindle offers. But for us, not checking with the appropriate support for our common use case: books from the library.

Summary: glare, no books available, poor customer service
So I have my sony prs600: 1) selection of book titles do not like is very limited, 2) can not upload book titles from other suppliers than the Sony Reader Library 3) sony censors book reviews and does not allow bad reviews to be posted (as an American, I abhor censorship of free expression so) the impression that (all the titles which are just a few) are "5-star," it says. In addition, more than 75% of the books I bought from Sony, does not check the spelling or processed ... End in mid-sentence paragraphs, and the reader will wonder whether pages are missing text also (see next section re: complaints to contact the customer service) 4) Sony Support has a "yes, you have a complaint, so what?" Attitude ... I'm running around as a customer service and received "several times with" oh, you need to call another number, "as the answer to any question after it on hold upwards of 45 minutes 5) the color / target is set to" Disable page to find "keys after only one month of use (another" so what? "response from Sony) 6) and then there is the" sham "issue ... But on the plus side ... It is a beautiful shade of red ...

Summary: Great product poor Sony support
Reader's wonderful to Sony support sucks. Spent more than two hours waiting for a real person to speak on an error message that is not defined.
When I finally Sony said they told me I needed Adobe Reader which is free digital download is not easy to find easy. They finally sent me a link that works. Their download page needs to have a link to that situation and I was very frustrated with the Sony!

Summary: Happy with my choice
I spent some time looking into various eReaders-The Nook eReader, Kindle and Sony. I must say I am happy with my choice of the Sony touch. I was just reading my first ebook on it and loved it! The Sony ereader touch is smooth and very comfortable to use. The only thing that could use improvement is the marking, it is very sensitive. But when you work with it and remain patient to work it. I was not impressed with the B & N Nook, when I tried it out. It was clunky and awkward to operate. The Kindle is really good, but I wanted to be able to download some books from the town library, the Kindle is not possible at this time. I have about $ 40 extra for the Sony, but it's worth it. Sony is a reliable company is consistent to that of good tech products.

Summary: Happy with Purchase after Agonizing Decision!

I have watched eBooks and the existing hardware for them for years. When came the Kindle, I spent some time with one and liked it but was about the kind of proprietary format and the inability to "share" my books affected.

Nook was then, and I was tempted, but struggled with the same issues - and the lack of availability, when I was ready to buy, too.

I had a look at the Sony versions, but has not even attempted until the Touch came out.

I am * so * glad I waited.

What I love:

PDFs read - I read in grad school and 20-30 journal articles in the week. That is a lot of time to spend a chair in front of a screen - and far too much to print. I can convert my own documents and put them on the reader ready reference.

Free library books - there are ePub and PDF books available through my public library free to play on my readers, without conversion or dispute. Beautiful Adobe interface makes it seamless.

Free Public Domain Books - These books already formatted for this reader. The pages flow nicely. The only downside is that I can never read them all!

Large selection of books to buy - I like that I can buy them from various sources - including Sony, Fictionwise, and the like.

Audio - The reader provides support and play MP3 audio books, music, and the like. I can * free * audio-read books from my library for my drive Download Time 'or listen to music while I read.

Expandable - There are two card slots for expanding the memory of the reader I should ever need more space.

Color - It's red! Yes, you can get it in silver, but I love that it comes in red! It may inspire silly, as on the aesthetics, but they play no role.

Design - In addition to the beautiful color, this reader is designed just beautiful. It feels good in your hand and fits perfectly into the (purchased separately to cover) to set on fire.

Touch Screen - When the sides with a button in order, but I just love to steal my thumb to jump to the next page. The ability to tap twice on a word and select a dictionary is wonderful. Highlighting, handwritten notes and on-screen menus are all the bonus features of this technology. In addition, it means there is more room for display and only a small piece of real estate devoted to keys. Love it.

Clarity - The screen is somewhat reflective, and the touch-screen level will lead the reader to lose that a little bit of clarity, as compared to other Sony Reader. However, unless I hold them side by side, it is not something I noticed. It is very easy to read this eBook, and the aforementioned cover with light allows me to read it anywhere.

Adjustable Fonts - The ability to print size from small to gigantic change is fabulous. There are 5 font sizes, and I've used them all for a book or another.

Adjustable Screen Orientation - I love to be able to turn the book aside. It's really my preferred orientation for the reading.

Why only 4 star:

Which was set up by this unit bulky. There is not much loaded with a manual (4 pages? Coming) and all the software on the device and on your computer when you plug it in. exception, you may need additional software to create PDF files, you play with your library's nice. And you have to run and maintain the software and firmware upgrades as soon as you put it. (I love that Sony fixed the problems so that only a small complaint here.) If I was not very sophisticated technology, I have a glitchy, crash program and no idea how to fix it stuck. There must be a "here's how you get your computer up and running that we have now found out that we are not willing to work ship" card in the box!

The people have me on the need to connect to my computer asked the books and other reading material for this eBook purchase. I actually prefer it so. It is a rare day that I was not on my laptop. I stand by my library and save it through my computer, and I pretty regularly synchronize your device. By searching for songs online I can find the best deal and bound instead of a variety of sources for content. (Library "Google" Free! If not, then I quickly check my favorite 3 places for the title I want at the best price.) With several hundred pounds to the eBook, I have never read from material.

While I'm not super-thrilled with the software that came with the system, once I discovered an open source program called the Caliber that I organized eLibrary converted files will be read on my device and retrieves messages from more than 300 seats, I officially hook for good. But this is a very different evaluation.

Summary: Love It!
Wonderful and easy to use, but I always recommend the Calibre software. All the books I already had that not because the format will be brought here, that with easily converted.

I have many more than just reading them found. I use it for my shopping list (in my own handwriting), my "little black book" and an MP3 player when my husband has stolen my true. There is a slight shine, but it's not really a problem. Anyone who ever played a Game Boy, will have no problems dealing with this.

Make sure to get a screen protector as well!

Summary: Love my reader
When deciding on a purchase eReader, I did extensive research trying to decide between a Sony Reader Touch, the Amazon Kindle and the Nook Barnes and Noble. I read the CNET reviews, comparison charts, I Googled, I read everything I could get my hands to figure out how get the most bang for my buck. Originally, I was most interested in the Nook. However, when I went to a B & N it a test run I was very disappointed. I found the nook to be slow, and touch activated only in the bottom bar on the screen. It is a nice looking machine, but it is a bit too heavy and will not do justice to what I had expected. Next I tried a Kindle. Fortunately, I had a friend who already owned one so I could test it. The Kindle was much faster than the Nook, but I liked the idea of a touch screen and, let's face it, the Kindle is not all that good optics. Finally I went to Target to try the Sony touch.

The touch screen is easy to navigate and I have found, and all controls intuitively right. It is easy to pick up where you left off in the book you are reading, without searching all over. The touch screen takes a little practice, as you have to do to a certain pressure in order to identify what you want to use it. I've found it's a little longer to respond when I use my finger nails (you place the pad of my finger) or with the pen. The screen has glare. It can be a little annoying, but it is easy enough to cut down a bit to shift it. Also, I can understand, there are screen protectors cut that you buy, help from the glare and protects the screen from scratches. The 8 levels of grayscale could a little sharper and have better contrast (like the Kindle, 16) but it is not enough, a problem for me cause problems.

Many reviews of the Touch have focused on their lack of wireless connectivity. Frankly, it was not an issue for me. The machine holds about 300 + books and has the ability to expand the memory. I think I can wait until I get on a computer to download a new book and to load with a USB media is, no hassle. You can either use the included software, or simply drag and drop. What the lack of ability to connect to the Internet for other things ... I bought a gadget for books to read without the backlight issues and distractions (games, Internet, etc) from a normal computer. That is, if the ability to subscribe to magazines is something you do for this probably is not the gadget for you ... Kindle and Nook looking for support, the easier.

I will say that the Touch is probably a little overpriced. At a suggested retail price of $ 299 is about $ 40 more than the Kindle and the Nook. Howevery by themselves to find the happiness I had a great deal on an electronics that brought it on the spot at around $ 250 even for express delivery. The books are stored in about the same price on the Sony Reader, as they are by B & N or Amazon. Plus, you can pick up pounds from most other dealers, if you enjoy ebook comparison shopping. (Note: I know nothing about the purchase of e-books from Amazon for this reader, I do not think it know to support the Amazon format. I'm not sure if they are ordered with pounds of B & N., the work )

I only had my Touch for a few weeks, but so far I love it. It is performing well, and I'm really happy that I finally choose it from all eReaders on the market.

Summary: No comment from the recipient
Bought for a gift for Christmas and asked for opinions recover from the beneficiaries. Either they are too busy to have tried it, or too polite to tell me that they are dissatisfied. Both read a lot and it is an editor. Do you think the product would be very useful to download it and check on his free time - everywhere. But since they are usually very grateful for the gifts, I think they are not as satisfied as I had hoped.

Summary: Not your average Sony...

Sony PRS-600BC Clear Touch Anti-Glare Screen Protector

Ok, where do you start? I think the title of this review. I do not think that this is your average product of Sony, because I really expected much more from a company with their reputation. So take no further adieu, here's my on the Sony PRS600 eBook reader.

My first impression was that the eBook reader really comes across in its elegance. So in this context, the pictures can not do it, it is enough justice. This is really not as something that will come with the business and personal environment to be seen. I went with the more standard black version, unlike the other options, but the red may not be a bad choice for someone who wants to either push the envelope, or just make a statement.

One of the features I really like about this device is the multi-memory card slots. The reader allows you to store your data on SD as well as more proprietary Sony Memory Stick format. This is a very good trait for someone like me that Sony cameras in the past (which I had no more use) that can use me to the old memory cards that I just randomly lying around. Also, because these are two separate slots on the top of the device, it will allows you to both slots with the card of your choice, complete the strategy would allow the added value of work, maintaining and playing geographically separated, the other is nice feature that you will not find many of the other eBook readers.

The menus, I found, are pretty decent, but I found it a bit lacking. For example, there is no way to adjust the contrast on the device. My concern with the ability to come to the contrast of one of my major concerns over the amount of glare that the image produced. Granted, for some it is not much, but for me it's been a little too much. Apart from that, I have the Sony PRS-600BC Clear Touch Anti-Glare Screen Protector ", which I have just been purchased recently. Too bad that I did not do so if I bought the readers know how I would in any case, will recommend to everyone that it is, or has bought this unit. Between this and the Sony Reader Digital Edition Cover with Light Touch - Black (PRSACL6) "this device is almost completely perfect.

Since it will be around the "Touch Edition" would be no review, no supplement to this functionality. The touch function really comes into play if you want to either flip the pages, or if you use the zoom function on the side to move (since when is moving in the zoom mode, the zoom slider is on the screen and the displayed page must be around all the information that could be covered from the perspective view).

Previously, I was pretty unsure about this device. I would have loved the bigger screen, say, the Kindle DX. But after about Amazon saw a little bit, I also recognize that there is less opportunity to really personalize the Kindle, and far fewer accessories available to make the Kindle better or resolve associated short defects. Even if we have the issue, though it supports more formats Kindle does not support it, the EPUB format, meaning that if all of your eBooks from Amazon are planning to purchase, you probably do too much in terms of other eBooks about everyone else. In all fairness though, while the Sony has the MS Word format in terms of support. RTF file extension is not supported. DOC extension, which the Kindle does not ([...]).

As for the software, an employee of mine told me that prior to receiving the device, which Sony has been entirely absent in their development of the eBook reader software. His only suggestion was for me for free Caliber eBook reader software download (which) I found with a simple Internet search. So get the Caliber free eBook reader software, and none of the associated problems was that I've seen mentioned in some of the other reviews.

Final Verdict:

For what it's worth, this is a really pretty nice eBook reader. Fit and finish are first class, it works as advertised, is very appealing, the eyes, and is fairly easy to navigate. My only recommendation would be to the accessories as mentioned above, which will also help your eBook reader experience that would make a lot more fun.

Realistically, no eBook reader to 100% of what "they" really being an eBook reader. The trick seems to find one, that most of the requirements that you have to respond adequately to be most important to you.

Summary: Prs 600RC Easy to Navigate

I had my 600RC PRS for two weeks.

The worst thing is about my 600RC PRS, the dark screen and the eLibrary software. The first time I had problems with the software with my PRS 300RC, which I gave my twin brother as an early Christmas present.

The software locked up and no matter what I did, it would not load again. I then searched some blogs and followed the instructions and got the software works. It will only work as part of another logged-on user, but it works.

The PRS-600RC, the screen is noticeably darker than the PRS-300 is. However, as others have posted here, you get to the image darker and used the low glare. It is easier to read in direct sunlight or high light areas.

I have no experience with the MP3 player function, I still have the comment function. The PRS-600 is a profitable business to buy, but I would be just as happy with the PRS-300, as it was lighter and much, much easier on the screen.

I like the preview option on the PRS-600, the PRS has not 300th With Caliber Library makes it easy for you to sell your books, either title or author to organize.

I have read that if the reader is charged via the USB to the computer, it is always no charge as long as one of the power supply. I find this to be true as I have just the free reader from three days and am already down a bar. I read an average of 2 + hours a day, every day.

I'll update in a few weeks after I research what sites to buy books for my readers to be compatible. I bought books from barns and noble, and they are not compatible and are DRM-protected.

Overall, I'm enjoying my PRS 600RC

17. December 09 (update) I can take with battery issues. I have in the comment section, in case someone might have some tips on fixing this problem.

I've found that I had the first reader that had a dark screen was broken. It was a return if I bought it. I was the reader back and a brand new, coming in no additional costs!

I have not downloaded the new software for the Sony elibary, but I have read reviews on the improvements.

Still thrilled with my purchase.

Summary: Screen clarity terrible!
There is no comparison between the clarity of this display eReader and the Kindle. The screen on the Sony Reader is very disappointing. I have read that most people would not notice the difference. I do not agree! This gives me a headache trying to read it. The contrast is poor. The sharpness is bad. It's like trying to read a slightly larger PDA screen. The glow of the screen is much more than the Kindle. You can download PDF files to 2nd better than the Kindle There are two types of zoom on - that maintains the integrity of a graph and the other that re-wrap the text. But none of that matters, if not easy to read screen. This eReader is going back! I will wait until the second quarter, which comes out to more effectively compete with the Kindle, but give me more of the characteristics that do not have the Kindle.

Summary: Slow, slow, slow
I am not a person who can write to articulate lengthy reviews on Amazon. I apologize in advance. But I feel there should know 2 things Buyer:

1st do not read this product like a book, it is much more difficult to read them as a book because a glare bounces off the screen, and there is no backlight (sorry for the non-technical term), I am squinting past a glare half the time, and I'm not yet, if there is a way to display the dark (I'm too lazy to make reading the manual, I just have not figured out how to do it mapped to the buttons).

2nd The software is slow. It can rotate up to 5 or 6 seconds for a page to get the menu, etc. 5 or 6 seconds can expect much after it happened so or 20 times.

But it makes reading PDFs and my 1000-page textbook fit in it, and I managed to read the whole book, but could not take notes because it is too uncomfortable to read. It was a gift for my birthday, so I can not complain, but I would go to a Sony store and try one of these out before you pay $ 200. Oh, and the notes and highlighting feature is pretty useless because it is too slow. However, the dictionary feature is quite nice, but also slow.

Summary: Some notes from Australia
I live in Australia, where up seems to the e-reader technology a little slow (as opposed to high-definition televisions - a sad reflection of modern society, perhaps).
There is not much here in Oz, although Kindle is now on the market.
I spent quite a lot of time reading reviews and finally settled on the Sony PRS-600.

Why?
I wanted something that would last a couple of novels for the quiet moments. That's really all I after. I am a bit of a minimalist and hate paperbacks collect on my bookshelf.
I did not feel the need for wireless access. I was uncomfortable with the idea of being able to one provider to deepen in my e-reader, when, and fiddle with the contents. Besides, my laptop has wireless access and I'm rarely away so long.
I did not want a lot of buttons and a keyboard. I wanted something more robust.
I liked the idea of the touch screen. I note, have found other reviews, the touch screen requires more pressure than they expected, but I have not found this myself. I have enjoyed, in a position to lay in bed, keep the reader with one hand and pull the screen with the thumb of the same hand, to change sides.

Not so good:
I think I'm really enjoying the gray background (I was not sure if I would), its very relaxing for the eyes would be useful in comparison to the white paper, but something bigger contrast between the print and the background.
It is a bit of thought, and that was initially confusing, but I do not notice it now. A little inclination to resolve. Actually less irritating than the reflection you get from the glossy paper often used in coffee table books.
I was unable to access the Sony bookstore from Australia. No matter how many other online bookstores are more than happy to sell my ebooks (I could not order the product from Amazon, I got it from B & H Photo Video in NYC - why, I wonder?).
The Sony software is pretty commonplace. Since I do not have access to their bookstore but I've deleted it and use Calibre, which works fine.

Additional Information:
EReader technology still feels like its in its infancy, and one feels there is much room for improvement. I expect that in 10 years we will require devices like the Sony PRS-600 quaint and old-fashioned. But now I am more than happy with it. It performs pretty much as I had hoped.

Summary: Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition
Readers got this for Christmas (bought it for me) and love it. It is easy to use and down load the books immediately. I bought a cover with light for reading in subduded light and carry it with me all the time. The only drawback is the fonts have a little darker. It is easy to carry and I spend a lot of time sitting in practices and it makes it easier to waiting. It would also be nice if they issue shares skills. I bought this from Amazon and paid about $ 50.00 less than suggested retail and include shipping.

Summary: Sony Reader - love it!

I have the Reader for Christmas, and I love, love it! It is perfect for me. I read a lot and often have trouble finding room to store all my books. Finally, I am forced to the difficult choice of which books go into the donation box, and what I always do. Buying books from the Sony eBookStore is simple and easy and best of all - I can start reading immediately. Not all the books I will be happy to read in digital form, but there is a wide selection of available books. Certainly not the choice or variety. I have 14 books on my reader and love so much that they take less than an inch space on the shelf.

The reader is not lit, so I can read all day and not to strain the eyes. I even forget sometimes it is not a book and turn up to the hand. The pages are easy to make with the stylus or your thumb on the screen or the navigation buttons on the bottom of the reader.

I loaded some pictures to it from my computer, and they look great. You are not in color, but they are very sharp.

So far I have music on, load it, but it comes with two songs. The sound quality is very nice.

I have the Reader with integrated light cover - the light on a flexible arm that neatly stowed. Great for reading at bedtime. The reader is not very hard, and together with the cover I can not hold much like a normal book.

One of the other reviews mentioned, color, and I am, yes, I agree. My reader is also red, and it makes a big difference. One of the things that I do not have a Kindle had seen how I was, blah, they were white. The red is vibrant and beautiful.

I checked the library function you can borrow books for readers from a library, but there were no libraries for my condition listed. I'm not sure if I can borrow books from another country, but I hope there are books that I'd be interested in reading, but do not want to buy. Right now, that is my only snag.

Summary: Sony Touch Reader
Have bought for my sister like a b-day gift and she loves it! She loves the fact that you can free the books from the library.

Summary: The right choice for me
I have it. I love it. I would not give it to someone whose idea was hard e-mail. I would them one-stop-solution Kindle. I am much happier with the world of free pound, though! Many wonderful things have passed into the public domain, and there are many contemporary writers (a fair amount SciFi) who want to read only and set free from their books in EPUB format. These are available at several sites have found I like the whole world of Public Domain. People complain that more books have Kindle. From what I've seen, you need to do a simple search for "epub-title." The epub books are not centralized, like Kindle, which is why I say that it is looking for a better fit for someone who is not happy. I had problems with the library software does not recognize the reader, but that was easily remedied by a call to Sony customer support. It has a smooth since then.

The book is not backlit (or Kindle). I do not know if there is one of them. I do not want one with a back. I bought a leather book-like cover with a slot for a custom LED light that I have, and it works beautifully, although I usually do not need the light. People complain about the gloss, but I think comparing them with completely non-reflective paper, but a different type of screen. I do not find it particularly disturbing. Unlike a laptop, the more ambient light, the easier, the screen is visible, such as paper. It washes not look like a backlit screen. I like the touchscreen, although it is just a gee-whiz factor, and would not be my deciding factor. The deciding factor for me was the non-proprietary format book, and I was also influenced by how much I can add (memory cards, such as a camera). So far I have about 6 'of bookshelves in my hand did, and I'm not even a dent in the on-board memory made. Maybe I'll never need to add cards!

The form factor is easy to hold and, of course, especially with his M-edge leather. I like it better than Kindle, which has a keyboard on the floor. In contrast to Kindle, it has no cellular connection. Only one USB cable. But since I have never been in line at the grocery store were all bathed in sweat, to download a book NOW, I do not care. This was definitely the right choice for my 60th Birthday present ME!

Summary: Too Pricey For What You Get
For the record, I'm an inveterate bookworm. My main task is to save the purchase of a digital reader and read eBooks. My contribution focuses on the performance of the device for this purpose.

The reader PRS600RC is a mixed bag. Overall, I am disappointed with him because I think it is overpriced.

The device suffers from extreme glare screen - you see your reflection in it - and poor contrast in the e-Ink technology. The contrast is really bad - imagine writing on a charcoal gray background medium. Both problems sabotage of the reading experience. Yes, adjust the angle you hold the reader can solve the glare, but for $ 300 + (including accessories, additional storage and service plans) is expected not to be widely read for a reader.

The touch technology and features notetakeing do not impress me and I do not use it. The screen smudges too easily, again impeding the reading experience. I use the digital control whenever possible.

I have noticed poor battery life. Sony advertises a 10-day battery life. This is not my experience, regardless of the frequency or use infrequnency. I do a lot to read - often a novel, and one or two novels or short stories per week - and it seems that my reader is always at 50% battery life.

A few "professionals" about the reader: it feels very stable and solid. I've accidentally removed (a small drop on a carpet) and suffered no harmful effects. It is an attractive device, rich candy-apple red. I appreciate the convenience of being able to transport a virtual library everywhere I go. I would appreciate it if the device in accordance with a better reading experience. I can read it in bright light bulb, held in a certain angle, etc.. If it cost $ 50, this would be satisfactory. The $ 300 price tag and the Sony name and reputation, calls for better performance.

This does not refer directly to the reader, but the Sony Reader Store is terrible, overpriced books (ebooks cost more than print pounds) and customer service is poor. I have had a very negative experience with the Reader Store and I can not recommend their current service standards.

I ended up buying the Sony Pocket Edition. The reading surface is much smaller, but much more readable and clear. It is not quite so "pretty", but it also costs $ 100 less. Also shows superior battery life.

Bottom line: This gadget is not doing what it should and it costs too much.

Summary: Very nice reader
This is a replacement for my PRS-500, and of course I have noticed that the screen is more apparent than the first two Sony Readers. However, I am really enjoying the touch screen, the simple word search, the variety of formats to take the device, and the relatively clear software. Nice reader.
