Summary: before you buy Kindle, Nook, or iPad...
I've had the PRS-505 for over a year.
Unfortunately, I left it on a tiled floor and the display has failed.
There is probably not a product that would survive this type of case.
Unfortunately it is out of warranty, so I will be watching the market very closely.

SCREEN - Please note that if you have not kept up and read eInk technology, you should not buy a device for reading. Nook and Kindle and Sony all use the same suppliers for eInk, and if you seriously try to replace books, is not an LCD screen to close. Unless the color screen on the new iPad has abilities that is, for some reason, not to mention Apple (!) Are not suitable for reading. The difference is really night and day. The eInk view is as good as paper. All the LCD screen is too blurry and organ music to be for any serious use comfortably.

BATTERY - Again eInk technology requirement. He uses almost zero power when the page is the same, when compared to LCD screens, which wastes an enormous power to the backlight. The Kindle, Sony Nook and readers are 10-14 days to go without a fee - iPad or go to another LCD for a few hours. Not much use on an airplane or car trip.

FREE MEDIA - This is important! Do not allow the Kindle and Nook, the free material in the EPUB format to read. This is the only practical free format for ebooks. If you can read the classics, or move your book free of the desktop to the reader to reader friend, you can not use Nook or the Kindle. Sony is the only major vendor to ePub without DRM support. Be careful out there - Nook seems to support free formats, but when you try to their desktop application, and carefully the information that you see that it is pointless for free formats. Also note that PDF results may vary. Due to the fluidity of text in PDF documents, many not suitable for reading on each reader.

Personally I would not buy any device which does not work with the rights of free ePub format. You with some of the smaller players, and Sony leaves - no other today.

There are many other functions which you then consider, but these three completely outweighs all others.

Summary: Best reader ever!
I had initially purchased a corner, which I invite you again within 2 weeks of purchase because of an inability to my PDF documents. With the repayment of money, I bought the PRS-505 and was still money left.
I uploaded at least 2,000 pounds (about 2GB worth of ProDuo 4GB SD card), some comic books and the reader was pretty fast. So far, it is a joy to use and have no cons to report.
My only problem is the inability to find a particular book without passing through the whole list and the fact that the tags of the pdf's are not displayed, the way they show on the PC, but how, as in Embedded moment the document was created.
After experiencing all the nightmares and disappointments that I (with the Nook mind you, I was treated very well, when I went to save dead, so that you return it), has been quite a breather.

Summary: Love it except for the battery life
That was my Christmas present to myself 2 years ago. Just as a book first person I thought, ick. I can not imagine reading a computer. Now that I do not lug the books, I love it. The screen is easy on my eyes. No glare. My only gripe is the battery life is awfully short. Another plus point: I download free eBooks from my library website.

There was to have been a problem for a while Download epub books, but this seems to be between Sony and Media Overdrive solved. The problem was not with the reader, however, a programming language conflict between the suppliers. I called SONY, reprogrammed and now it works well.

My new BFF lives in my handbag. Wherever I go I can read a book in a traffic jam, dining alone, waiting for the repair of vehicles, etc. At the moment I saved 35 books. Whatever my mood is the book in my hand.

Summary: Loved it at first......

I purchased the Sony PRS-505 in February 2009. For the first month or so I had no problem with the device and was really loving it. Then suddenly would begin to freeze and I would have rolled back through the small hole on the back and it would be nice to be back for a while. It happened several times over the next few months, and I called customer support on three occasions and went through the whole reinstall, re-calculated, etc. I think even bought the expensive Sony AC adapter, which could contribute to the collection with my PC. Since this is only a small problem to fix itself, I eventually lived with him.

Sony then upgrade to 3.0 software and the fact that another disaster was, it seemed, they can see a few problems with the 2.0 software was (namely, for me the possibility to connect to the Sony Store easy), but also removes some of the outstanding characteristics of the firm have used software such as the possibility of paying pounds (it only works when you set up a collection and not transmitted) in the main library and now click and drag / on a train an entire collection. But these were little annoyances, so I lived with them.

Then about 8 months after I bought them suddenly, the power button is not turned off and the sides would again freeze. I would have a hard shutdown every time I wanted it off, because the sleep mode no longer works so well. After a couple of puts it to work again for a few weeks. Then began the dismantling of the battery after only reading a 200 page book. While all this was occurring, I had built my PC again and the Sony e-library and re-installed the first time that I re-charged after I got my computer back all of my problems seemed to go with it, so I thought that mabye the problem had something to do with my computer. So for the next few months as it was in the first month I had bought it and I was back in my honeymoon phase of the love of the instrument. Then three days ago, the power button and the battery began to fail again, and now Sony will not recognize my library when I connect the reader and says it is a mistake.

This sucks really, because the main reason I bought this e-reader on the Kindle, as most books I buy are not available or too expensive to buy on Amazon, and I have it downloaded on my computer before transferring it anyway . FYI: I rarely buy from the Sony store, because the books are just as expensive as the Kindle Store. One of my favorite e-book trade is fictionwise.com, which actually is part of Barnes and Noble, so that if all bought my books on there would be transferable to the new Nook that soon a miracle? In any case, this site is great because it gives you several options in the formats for download here (through multi-format option only, are not offered all the books in this way will be) and if the book you can go back and reload Bought it as many times as you like in one of the formats through the multi-format option offered, for when I finally to change and the devices have a different format, but will not buy the book once again is great.

Just think a little info for those of you that you absolutely can buy from the Sony store. Each e-book Web site invites the book on your computer in a convertible format, Sony (just check each site size options) to transfer before you buy and you only in your Sony e-reader with a few clicks on the keyboard. Some may not be as slim as the. LTF Sony format, but is still legible.

Back to my review .... At this point I am totally with this e-book readers are tired of waiting for the reviews of Nook on the new Barnes and Noble to see if maybe an option to buy. It disturbs me greatly that I had this e-reader for less than a year and am ready to throw it out the window. I'm tired of professional customer service and I am really sad that I have had so much trouble with this device, because I love the sturdy aluminum frame on the plastic frame of the Kindle, and I never really saw no need for the keyboard that takes up so much space on the Kindle. I also liked the fact that I had books on the library to download it, and my own collections, further minimizing any key to use in accessing my books, it also has a Memory Stick slot to make a backup copy of all books easily. These were the outlets in choosing the Sony over the Kindle. Although the price of the Kindle has gone down considerably at this point, Sony has a lot more points in order to sell it than to buy the Kindle. It's just a shame that I apparently bought a unit that was a lemon.

UPDATE: Since this review, I have one more step to have taken me to solve the problems with reformatting the internal memory. It wipes out all the books on ereader but they were easy enough to transfer back to the Sony library. Since then (it was two weeks), I had absolutely no problems with the reader. The power button and battery are working just fine again and it has not been frozen pages. If this goes the honeymoon phase of my love continues to play on this device, but I'm still holding my breath because I thought I had solved the problems start in the past only for them again with it. If it continues to work as efficiently as it was then I add to this review for anyone else has similar problems as mine did. I do not think I want to change that rating, because I never had these problems from the outset.

Summary: Paranoid About Copyright Protections
One of these elements (PRS-505) given to me as a gift was. The device works as advertised, and shows the typical benefits of using an e-book reader. For example, you will find a faster access to a title without the necessity of time, you have to visit the store several books and you can wear without carrying the weight. The whole e-book community is slowly moving in the direction of popular formats.

On the down side, the customer support is terrible. Sony is paranoid (or pressure) on stolen content and / or copyright protection. You will receive an invoice with the Sony bookstore also need an account at Adobe (dot) com. When I changed e-mail addresses, customer support was totally confused and unable to merge accounts. I had to call back several times over several days. ** Some items are no longer visible and display "not authorized computer. The third person I talked to asked for 5 days for direct access to my machine! Sony has not yet finished sorting out how to interact with Adobe dot () com, as the customers required.

bummer, because I was really enjoying the unit and the convenient access to a song without time to find local businesses. However, the titles from the Sony store is rather limited. They have mostly Romance and other mass-market fiction.

A Non-Fiction Reader

Summary: Piece of Junk...

I bought this reader for my wife about a year ago. Worked great, but then the load / reset fiasco began. In short, this device is something wrong with their battery power and charging system. Unfortunately I had not yet looked at the Sony support page to see how many people are under the same problems. Basically it depends on 8 of 10 cases during some stage charging - the people for solutions - charge it 16 hours, etc, etc are totally ridiculous in today's world of reliable devices. This device is stable and screws - both on any Mac or PC - consistently and provocatively. Six months ago I bought a Kindle - do yourself a favor, stay Kindle - the Sony device has been seriously damaged.

Summary: Really Good Unit

I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She has not put it down since it opened to see! She loves it! Easy to use and buy books and the transfer from computer to the book reader is simple. Will it not be used for PDF's, so I can not comment on.

Summary: Warning: all sales final at Sony Reader store

Once your book is not purchased for download, as I recently, good luck for a refund from Sony. Their policy is that all sales are final. Understandably, when the "goods are actually delivered," but if it does not load on my computer that is a case where a refund would receive. Sony does not see it the same way. Dealing with the people at the Sony support has been a nightmare. Wait several e-mails, telephone calls (long at least half an hour per call), with the promise of Sony, that someone call me back within 24 hours. Ridiculous. I'm out $ 39.99 Sony is a customer. I can not get to wait for my new Kindle!

Summary: Wow..........Sony really knows how to make great products
So I decided it was time to buy an eBook Reader. I wanted to pay up to $ 200 plus for one, but then I found this gem of an outlet store sells for $ 99 brand new. Wow sony really knows how to please. They have been making electronics for so long, making them perfect button layout and design to close. I love the fact that this is not touchscreen, but it's as simple as they use resources and no spots on the screen. This is a very attractive looking unit and feels very solid (all-metal design) in the hand, which is very satisfying because so many new devices such as thin pieces of junk to feel in those days. I am glad that I do this because it two slots for expansion modules that you unlimited storage capacity, streams, other books you have, you add has purchsed ie, PDFs, etc. ... You can covert substantially all the PDF book or manual in an ebook by simply dragging and dropping into the device in literally seconds. Other readers are plug purchashing material from exclusive suppliers and have no hope of expansion.

You Could but it here, or you could buy it at http://www.myezbids.net for up to 99% off!!!
